Mugging near 427 Sterling Place?

Around 9:30am this morning, I spotted a police van and two cruisers parked near my building (on Sterling Place, near Washington). Four police officers were talking to a small group of people across the street, while two others were looking down into basement stairwells of next door buildings. I overheard a neighbor say: "The lady said the guy had a gun..." This is, of course, how rumors get started. But we have had some trouble on our end of the block before and I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about what happenned this morning.

  • On the Tom's side or across the street? I walked through that intersection around 8:45 a.m. (the Tom's side - I come from Washington and turn down Sterling to the B train) and nothing was going on. but I would like to know more - I've never had any problems coming through there (or crazy lane, for that matter) at all hours of the day or night but that doesn't mean anything.
  • The cops were talking to folks on the opposite side of the street from Tom's (the north side). They were checking stoops and stairwells on that side of the street as well (the four larger buildings at the end of the block.

I live on Sterling Place near Washington and love it. I have never had a problem on my block, but some of my neighbors have (a few muggings, one of them on our stoop last year, usually two guys threatening to stick people and then grabbing their wallets and cell phones). I tend to think its just the risk one runs when choosing to live in the big, bad city.
  • By the time I got back to that end of Sterling with the dog, around 9:15, I didn't see anything other than a single cruiser..

Same here - 5 years on the block and never a problem, other than one guy getting all up in my shizzle cause my cab door barely nicked his POS truck.

Course, having an 85-lb pitt mutt helps.
