Terrible smell (smoke?) in Park Slope - 10th st / 4th ave

I live around 10th st / 4th ave and there is this disgusting heavy chemical smoke smell in the air. it's giving me a headache and going inside doesn't chase it away. It's like a combination of burned toast, rotten eggs, old cigarettes and burning hair. I smell it every so often but rarely as strong as today. Anybody have an idea what this could be? is the gowanus on fire????

  • Appears to be a fire on Washington ave and Montgomery street. that is the only thing close pursuant to Gothamist.

  • I swear, it's something they're doing with the construction on the 9th st. F train. I've smelled this exact smell before. I don't think its a fire that far away, unless it's huge...

  • Probably the "already remediated" site of the future Whole Foods, at 3rd Ave and 3rd St.

  • I am not too sure that I am telling you about the same smell. Right in the vestibule in the last two weeks from time to time I smell something like gas, dead rat, mold, funky smell. It isn't there all the time but it is obvious when it happens. .. to me at least. Husband says he doesn't smell it. I have checked the rest of the building and not smelled it.

I bring this up because I do live where the Op does and this a new smell for me, too.

  • i live around the corner from you and smelled it this morning
