Loud Sign That Makes No Sense.. — Brooklynian

Loud Sign That Makes No Sense..

Near our front door, hung haphazardally is a metal sign next door neighbor attached to his gate. I believe it is to warn others not to park (driveway), but says something like private parking only, 300 vehicle capacity, or you will be towed, and customers only, etc. Seems like it is from a business site vs: private home. Very far away from street, so no one would actually see it while parking in front of driveway with no yellow line or curb slant anyway.

So, after two days of high winds and banging sign keeping us up all night, I'm seeking advice. Putting up with an occasional windy day has been put up with by our family of 3 for a few years now, but our 9yo was sleepless and scared most of the night. We are not on speaking terms with this person or would do the obvious.

Is a sign that has nothing to do with the owned property legal/allowed? Don't want to make a noise complaint, so maybe another way to peacefully attempt to have banging sign go away?? Please Help.

  • (finally a thread that isn't complaining about snow removal!)

The obvious way to make it go away would be a bolt cutter.

    or some protracted 311 process.

....but lets think different. Why not secure the silly sign of your neighbors so it won't bang in the wind?

    Duct tape?

    Wire?

A few well placed nails or screws?

maybe build the thing a backing (like a 2 x 4) that holds it secure.

He'd never have to know that it was secured. No harm would come to the sign.

  • Don't be a wuss, just pull it down. You can blame the snow.

  • Listen, I understand why you're on the website complaining about it; it's mad annoying and a valid concnern...but if it's really being that annoying and f-ing with your kid, then stop being being a pussy, go to your neighbor and tell that putz to take that sign down and put up one that doesn't bang. Just because that motherf-er is cheap and can't buy a real "Do Not Park" sign doesn't mean you have to suffer! WTF?

  • Look, secure the sign yourself. You are the one being inconvenienced by it, and clearly your neighbor doesn't care. If s/he comes out and asks what you're doing, tell him its keeping you up at night and you'd rather fix it than fight about it.

  • another cheap and easy way to secure it if there is something behind it are sip ties which can pe put on in a matter of seconds and will secure it to the dence as long as there are some kind of holes or you can attach several zip ties together to make one larger zip tie..... these are sold at most hardware stores and or lowes
