Yes they aren't taking any more cats right now. How do you list a cat with Muffins? I took great portraits of these guys but am now very wary about listing them on Craig's list.
KM, have you tried Slope Street Cats?

I believe the cats are already neutered (but not sure). Someone in the neighborhood apparently works for Bide-A-Wee and does a capture, neuter and release. We have TONS of stray cats over here (it is like the coloseum but without the beauty!). These three (now two since Laurie did take one) were just so recently abandoned that I thought they might make someone a nice pet before they got too into the feral world. -

The site is muffins.org. As I recall, there are pretty clear instructions on the site for listing an animal for adoption. Basically, you write up a very short description and separately email a photo. I had better results doing my own screening than having Muffins do it. (Partly because I don't think they really "screen" people but simply forward the adoption forms toyou.) And also from listing a phone number rather than just email. I had a lot of inquiries about the stray cat I listed -- maybe in part because he was a long-haired cat and quite beautiful, but it's still probably worth a try if you don't mind doing a little more work for these cats.

Hello. Jesse from Slope Street Cats here.
SSC is soley a TNR group and only handles adoptions when we are cleaning up friendly cats/feral kittens from a TNR project - that is the only reason our adoption leg exists, unfortunately. We initially tried to do it all but it almost sank us and since there are no other TNR groups in Brklyn and TNR nips the feral problem in the bud (and our IRS paperwork says 70%+ of our time/$$ will go to TNR), we focus soley on TNR. In the past two years we have fixed & returned over 100 feral cats and adopted out over 60 cats that we were able to pull from colonies we were TNR-ing.
That said, I'm trying to find my own foster for a friendly cat who was dumped in one of my fixed colonies. Sadly there just never are enough fosters for the number of cats out there.
Some resources if you wanted to turn the cat over:
1) The ASPCA has open admission days on Tuesdays. I believe the contact is Ben L. and you would want to call first to see if they have any room in the cattery so you don't make a trip for nothing.
2) These are all of the Mayor's Alliance participating organizations (all except ACC are no-kill):
http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/aboutus/participants/borough.htm
In the past when we have fallen short on foster resources we have been able to get a cat into maybe about...3 of those. It's all timing! At least it's past kitten season so you might have a better shot.
Regarding spaying/neutering, we plan projects 1-2 months in advance and work with the ASPCA's mobile unit on days scheduled for rescuers (s/n, rabies, eartipping = free) using our rescue contract. Since we are all-volunteer we ask that the feral caretaker take the NC/ASPCA workshop so they know what they are committing their colony to and they will be able to lend a hand/talk to their own neighbors about how and why TNR works for both people who love and hate cats. We private vet cats only when we are seeking diagnosis for a sick cat, it is too young to be fixed, it is an emergency, it is an adoptable cat and needs follow-up boosters or a quick FeLV/FIV test before being placed with a foster or there are no free slots available at the clinics. (So, basically we still shell out a ton for vet bills too.)

Subject: I sometimes can't make it to the bathroom either...
Well, just a few words here
We've fostered animals through BAFN. And some of them have had problems, but none of those problems have been insurmountable. Some dogs weren't well housebroken (thank god for hardwoods!) That's pretty normal for a dog in a new home-- heck, i've even had problems in hotel rooms where I couldn't find the bathroom on my first night there. Some dogs have had hip problems. Others didn't understand how to sleep in a crate. Others have had mange or kennel cough.
There's no way for BAFN to know that the dogs have these problems. The foster parents should evaluate the dogs and find a SUITABLE home. That means that the home should fit the dog, not the other way around.
Someone in this forum ended up with a well-bred dog with a clean, well-known pedigree. Great news for them. That's what they wanted, and I'm sure that dog is showered with love and more money is spent on it than some families earn in a year. Personally, I want to see dogs in bad situations moved into loving homes, or immediately put down. I'm working for a reduction in suffering by animals. That's it.
BAFN works hard to do this. Laurie is obviously affected by this in many ways. Spend one day in a New York City Animal Shelter. You think the stuff they show on Animal Planet is rough?? Hmph.
Until any of us step up to do as much as Laurie does, we should muster some forgiveness, and we should do what we can to help. Why not foster a dog for a week. Or post some fliers. Find someone else to foster. Get a dog rescued. Choose any of these.
Just try to make a difference. Please. Of course, it's a free country, so you're also free to call you local breeder and to pay a few hundred dollars for an inbred animal. Ignoring the problem is the more popular option, isn't it? And i'm sure those purebred dogs won't pee or poo in any apartment, right? only the strays do that on your ethan allen furniture. (but seriously, buying a dog isn't evil, it does however feed into the problem. Any dog can be a good dog. It's about the owner. And if the medical bills are so insurmountable, then you should in good conscience have the animal put down.)
Regardless, BAFN has a good heart in Laurie. While sometimes extreme, if you know what change you want to affect in this world (or even the world around you,) you can make a difference through BAFN.
And if you have a problem with them, you can always go down to the shelter yourself (that's right, ON YOUR OWN!) to rescue a dog, to foster a dog, or to work to get one into a good home. Craigslist is open to all of us, as is petfinder.com. Get down there. Find a dog. If you can't keep it, work to find it a home. It's not THAT hard, and it can make all the difference. And during the process, you just might find an animal you love!
Take a few hours a week and try to reduce the suffering of animals in the world. That is, of course, unless you're already spending your free time reducing the suffering of people in this world. -

So you peed on the floor? Huh?
Anyway, no need to be so condescending. Almost everyone who's posted on this thread has taken in a rescued animal. -
well, that was a long time ago. i was in college, and i'd had a few too many drinks in cardiff. but that's another story for a different day.

sorry to be consescending. i only meant to direct it at the person who doesn't like strays because she doesn't know their history (versus purebred dogs) -

I don't feel Muddy to be condescending at all. and I appreciate the post. -
Actually, it was a bit condescending, the bit about Ethan Allen furniture in partiuclar struck me as a bit much too.

well, same as the "I've peed on the floor of a hotel room myself" part, I understood where the off-beat "humor" was coming from.
at any rate, I appreciate the post. my opinion. and as my favorite saying goes "opinions are like assholes, everybody has one" -

Oh yes, I liked the peed on the floor part myself, though it seems like I misunderstood the context at first, I was picturing an incontinent older gentleman, an not a drunken uni student.
