I live further down President from that school. I think most of the issues that you may hear about are a result of the 2 high schools (Prospect Park Hi and Clara barton) and issues with school kids. In the 6 years I have lived here, I have not heard about anything like a shooting happening there.

You can find crime stats for your area on the police precinct web site

Oh my goodness, great location but a little bit scary with the schools. How old are your children? The lower schools are usually less of a problem, the high grades more of a problem. I don't know if you are from NYC, but there is some flexibility in the NYC system now, whereby you can sometimes transfer under certain circumstances. The best source of info is of course other parents with small children, and my kids are college age. This board may not have a lot of that sort of people. I recommend the park slope parents board which might have people familiar with the schools your neighborhood.

Good luck and let us know how it works out. -
THANK YOU to everyone who has answered my questions,
my kids are in 1st grade and 4 grade.
I never lived in the city, I'm from Upstate so it will be a change, a HUGE change.
I've heard all these horrible stories about prospect park and since I will be living close to there, I just want my family and I to be safe.
and the area that I live, is that prospect hieghts or crown heights?
What is the socioeconomic status of families in that area?minerva wrote: Oh my goodness, great location but a little bit scary with the schools. How old are your children? are you for real?
Prospect Park is great, as is the Bklyn Museum and the Botanic Garden right behind it. I had friends with two young children in a building right across the street. They loved it (moved away for work tho.)
If you register, you might get better info from the site's regulars. There are several folks with school age kids here . . . and some local public school teachers.
