$10 at the door

People deserve to be paid. If $10.00 for live entertainment reduces you to mouse sounds, what happens when you are confronted with $125.00 for a ticket for a Broadway Play?
-
Agreed. $10 is chump change. Do it!
-
$10 is not chump change -- but $10 is totally reasonable for live music. I've never been to Legacy -- what's it like? Is it like a lounge with the music but you can still talk? Or do you just listen and sit/watch? (I went to Blue Note recently and it was a sit-and-be-quiet-and-listen sort of thing, but I've been to smaller venues where you can talk and whatnot while the music is going.) What's the vibe?

We actually had a similarly entitled post on our website about the return of live jazz to Nostrand: http://bk.ly/xoh. I think the fact that Legacy is hosting a jazz night gives you a sense of the type of vibe they are trying to foster.
They just opened a couple of months ago: http://bk.ly/xog.
(there's a couple more on the site)We have not yet patronized the place, but the general vibe was brightly colored, loungy, sports-bar ish feel. Has a lounge area, a pool table, a bar, and I believe a food menu. I can see some open mic nights being hosted here. One thing that they emphasized is that it is a "no doo-rags" type of vibe. Mid-scale. We spoke with the bouncer and they seemed leery of attracting the wrong element.

The Inkwell has live jazz as well. For some time. http://www.inkwellcafe.com/

I've been leery about going in because you can't see the interior from the street. I'd like to know what I'm getting into. Glad to hear that they are looking for an mid-scale crowd.

Besides Inkwells own jazz program, PLG Arts presents Jazz Night there once (and, in some months twice) a month:

yes, people deserve to get paid.
i can't afford to pay $125 for a broadway play, and i won't pay $10 to get into a bar on Nostrand, jazz or no jazz. sorry to anger you.
-
$10 is a little steep. I'll sound like an old man, but whatever happened to the $5 show?
-
The event was FREE last night. It seems that someone made a typo on their on-line flier.
I went with a few friends and has a blast!
The band was totally awesome by the way!!!
-
Free would have changed things. This is why proofreading is important.
-
oh snap!!

sorry to anger you.
No anger here. I really do just think artists deserve to be paid and $10 for an evening of live music isn't much to ask.
I'll sound like an old man, but whatever happened to the $5 show?
You do sound a little bit like an old man, lol! But really, if you have son or daughter, niece, nephew, God child, etc., who is a teen, your teen can take you as a guest to see a number of great performances, often Broadway shows included, for only $5 per person. Visit highfivetix.org for more info.BTW, I can't afford $125 for a Broadway show either...I was just sayin'
