I just want some of those amazing sculptors back out there this year making cool stuff. I was blown away by some of the things people built last year. There was an Indian (as in native american) face with feather headdress, a penguin, several actual block igloos, and more. I think a less detailed but cool one was a huge sofa with a tv in front of it.

If you like snow sculpture, then you have to get up to Quebec City between Jan. 28 and Feb. 13 for their annual Winter Carnival. In addition to the Ice Palace and the Ice Hotel (both made entirely of ice; if you are sufficiently insane you can rent a room in the latter for the night), there is extensive, and extreme, snow sculpture competition (not to mention wonderful food and drink and ice skating and many very happy people!):
TELUS International Snow Sculpture Competition:
The Next Generation Component (Place Loto-Québec)
At Place Loto-Québec, come and admire the work of young Québec artists! About a dozen teams from the 4 corners of Québec and a variety of schools bring blocks of snow to life. Snow sculpture has been part of Québec culture for many years. Presented by Loto-Québec.Québec and Canadian Components (Place Desjardins)
Place Desjardins becomes an exhibition grounds where you can admire Québec and Canadian sculptures. A real treat for the eyes!International Component (Place Desjardins)
The Plains of Abraham turns into a giant open-air museum where sculptors from around the world bring blocks of snow to life. Snow sculpture has been part of Québec culture for many years.People’s Choice: Award Ceremony and Flag Parade146
Visitors are invited to vote for their favourite sculpture. The principle is easy: voting clerks simply take notes when they ask visitors to make their choices. The votes are counted and a winner is named. There are several categories, including the People’s Choice, the Carnival Excellence Award, etc. Then the awards are presented to the winners, followed by the Flag Ceremony. -
Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake is also quite fun.
....massive ice blocks are cut from the lake to make a castle

Snow expected to arrive Tuesday evening (around 2000 hrs) ...
I love it when you talk European.
