Where do teenagers hang out?

I have a 15 year old daughter that visits me a couple of times a month, typically on the weekends. Does anyone know where teenagers socialize in Prospect Heights?

    Since she is only her a couple of times a month shouldn't you be hanging out with her and taking her to do stuff with you?

    Ah, Lexie, have you ever had a teenager? Much as nonzerosum might want to hang with his or her kid, the kid may prefer the company of other teens, at least part of the time.

    Or else it's "Do I have to visit Dad (or Mom, as the case may be) again??? It's so bor-r-r-ing!!!"

    Nonzerosum, its kind of hard to name a particular "spot" where kids hang out. My experience is that kids tend to do things with their friends ie. go shopping, go to the movies, etc, instead of all congregating in a particular place just to hang. You might be better trying to introduce her to some kids her age that live on your block or whose parents you know and let her take it from there.

    Prospect Heights is kinda small, so I'd be willing to look outside the immediate 'hood for her to make friends near you.

    Ask your her what she is into, and make sure she (not you...) is most engaged her in the search.

    Obviously, I don't know your daughter, but does some kind of class or structured activity with other kids seem like it would be a good fit?

    Like kids Karate classes? Yoga? Pottery?

    There are storefronts that offer such similar services, but my preference is often for the non-profits.

    I do have a 17 year old who lives in CT with her dad and comes to BK once a month or so... I try to keep her all to myself when she is here... So I hope that answers your question :) She does however like to go to Union Sq when it's nice out with her friends she brings here. Maybe suggest she bring a friend from home (thats what my kid does)

    Excellent idea!! A trip to NYC goes from boring to exciting when shared with a friend!

    I think I have to agree with Lexi about bringing a friend.

    If you are looking for her to make new friends here then it is best to introduce her to your neighbor's teen kids.

    Otherwise if she is in to animals my son has made some new friends by volunteering at BARC and Sean Casey.

    You also might want to sign up with the yahoo group Parents of NY Teens. Great way to find out what is going on and you might be able to arrange some teen outings for her to meet new people.

    Is she a video gamer?

    I don't know about a specific teen scene in Prospect Heights, but if you visit www.highfivetix.org, you will see info for teen movie and pizza nights as well as other events that might allow your teen to meet other teens in the city.

    You might also want to try first nights at the Brooklyn Museum. If your teen in ultra outgoing, she might be able to make a friend there. My eldest and her friends used to go there when they were that age. But definitely look into highfive.

    Thank you all for your suggestions. Lexie- as much as I want to keep her to myself, she gets a bit antsy especially on Saturday nights. I am trying to figure out a way to keep her enthusiasm for the bimonthly visits at a high. Your and 'homeowners' idea of bringing a friend is a good one. I will suggest that.

    First nights is another great idea. Thank you nearnostrand. I will also check out parents of NY teens as all of my friends kids are much younger, and I don't know other teens to introduce her to.

    The dance activities sounds great as well, she loves to dance. Thank you all for your time and suggestions.

    I am happy to take her out of Prospect Heights for activities.......looking forward to meeting other parents of teenagers + their teens.
