ISO: Person to Give Sub-Q Fluids to a Cat
My friend in North PS has a cat that has recently been diagnosed with kidney disease. She needs help with giving her cat sub-q fluids every two days. She can pay $20 per visit. Please e-mail her if you or anyone you know can help. Thanks so much!

Thomas, who is a vet tech at Animal Kind did this for our cat and was great. He also charges $20 per visit. If he's not available, I would suggest calling any vet. Most of the Vet techs do this on the side.

You can also call Park Slope Veterinary Care - their folks do it as well.
I had a cat I had to give fluides to - it gets easier as time goes on and is not as hard as you think it is. Tell your friend to practice with whoever she hires to do this. -
I know Thomas.. he would be just the best person to help in this situation. he is a Cat and Dog whispered.... he would easily convince the cat that this procedure was almost as great as cat nip!

One lesson and an owner can give fluids, most cats don't mind it. It's easier than clipping their claws.

I brought my cat to the vet today and I have to start giving her fluids - luckily I remember how (but sadly, I have to do this again)
No matter who your friend hires to do this, I suggest she takes lessons from that person to teach her to do it...not only is it easier than clipping nails, it's actually easier than giving pill. -
I have a pretty wild cat (most times they have to put him asleep at the vet to do anything) and after a week of SQ fluids he got used to it.
For me the best approach is to pick him up, carry him to the bathroom and let him walk around on his own in there. After giving him the fluids I also make sure to give him a treat afterwards. He doesn't really struggle anymore, but there is still a little resistance.
Howdy, Stranger!
