We have used him many times. He does excellent work, is reasonable and reliable. Recommend HIGHLY. -
1st be careful. Are the new fixtures you want on an existing circuit? Depending on the age of your dwelling it may present very little if no problems. You need to understand recessed light and the bulbs that they can accommodate. Often a wall sconce can provide more light than overhead lights that are recessed. There are only a few important questions..Will the new cabling be a home run ? (from the new fixture back to a new ckt breaker) How much damage will need to happen to get the new lights in the desired locations? You want to avoid extensive wall repairs and repainting. Are you licensed and insured? Electrical work is not a hobby or acquired skill.period. Don't be selfish! A small mistake made in your apartment can impact(kill, harm or displace) everybody living around you if a fire occurs. Go to HD or Lowes and look at fixtures and bulb choices. Lots of cheap units work well and allow the connector to be lowered so that the bulb can be moved up and down in the fixture allowing you to get the light you want without getting the total exposed bulb look..probably shouldn't but..if you get a dimmer make sure the wattage calculation is right for the combined wattage of all the devices on the dimmer. A cheap dimmer will work at first and you will not know how hot it is getting because the assembly is in the wall. A 10 dollar dimmer is really bad

Unlicensed electricians who come with good recommendations by people I know are fine with me, but only when I really really know BUT ANYWAY the OP asked for licensed, so don't be scolding them so! The new v old construction issue is important -- if you're in an old place, use someone who's familiar with old stuff. (My friend's brother is a licensed electrician who refuses to deal with her place because all he really knows is new.)
These are all licensed, gathered from my neighbors and Brownstoner recs.

He dealt with some gnarly old stuff in my place, but I think all of these folks are familiar with older wiring, if you're in a brownstone or older apt building.

Super Charged in Staten Island. They have a Brooklyn crew and they are very good. I have worked with them on many jobs and can't say a bad thing about them. They are fully licensed and insured.
