No Kill Shelters that adopt
Does anyone know of any no kill shelters in Brooklyn that don't trap and release? Stray cats are a real problem in my neighborhood. While it's admirable that the shelters neuter and release the cats, it's way too cold out! This sweet cat followed me up the block and I'd love to see him adopted into a loving home, not released back out into the cold. I'd also be able to take him to Manhattan. Thanks in advance!

The shelters do not trap and release. Individual rescuers do TNR on feral cats. Most rescuers also manage colonies to provide shelter and regular feedings. Feral cats are TNR'ed because these cats do not want to live with humans. They don't mind taking food, but they do not want to be touched. Feral cats are TNR'ed to prevent litters (too many cats, not enough good homes) and to give the ferals relief from injury (tom's fighting and spraying.)
If the cat that is following you is friendly, try to work with a shelter to get it off the street and adopted. -
Cindy,
Check this thread for some links:
http://brooklynian.com/forum/brooklyn-pets/read-before-you-post-tips-for-using-this-forum#post-469514If you have the cat with you indoors and it's friendly your are on the right track. I'd post on Craigslist, Petfinder, post an image of the cat on our Pets Board, and such to make sure it is not a Lost Pet and someone is looking for it.
At the same time see if a "foster" home can be found (if you can't hold on to the cat for a while) until someone can adopt him into their home permanently.
Good for you for taking him in from the cold! :cat: :salut:

As mentioned by another poster, the cat is friendly and wouldn't need to be trapped and released since this is only done for non-friendly cats. If you can't foster the cat and find it a home then please get try to get it into a local shelter. It will at least have a chance. It has zero chance on the street.
Howdy, Stranger!
