False. Fortunately. Just had takeout there last night. Astoria it's not, but consistently very good spanokopita and other basic Greek fare.

but consistently very good spanokopitaReally? Do you get it as take-out, eat-in, or delivery? Mine has always been really really soggy. Although, that's the spinach pie -- do they have spanokopita too? I do not have the patience to make my own...filo is one thing I refuse to touch in the kitchen.

Spanakopita is spinach pie. That, along with these broiled shrimp and feta in tomato sauce is my favourite greek food. New restsurant guy, if you make those shrimp really good I will trek accross brooklyn to the slope to have them.
Edited to say that anything hot and crispy like fried food or spinach pie will get soggy in a delivery container. Best to order those things in the restaurant not for delivery. Or if you put your soggy pie in your oven uncovered for a few minutes it will crisp back up.

Spanakopita is spinach pie.I guess that's true -- my grandmother growing up certainly made a distinction - one had filling divided up in triangles completely covered in filo and the other was more lasagna-y and a layered pie that was cut. But that's true - they are the same ingredients, etc.
I'll try the oven thing - I just usually order take-out because I don't want to go out to eat and now I'll have to take it out of the container, dirty a dish, heat up the oven, etc... I know, what a horrible task for a meal, but still. At that point I might as well just make my own dinner.

nofay beat me to it: when we have it delivered, we usually pop it in the toaster-oven -- 300 for five minutes -- with the amazing lemon potatoes on the side, which also crisp a bit, and it's pretty great. (you can start on the side greek salad while it's warming up.) and it comes in a foil container so you don't have to dirty a dish. we also like to go there to eat in the summer in their back garden.
