Needing a good place in Gowanus/Greenwood/Park Slope to sit for hours and study

Hi.

I teach two courses and I am also preparing for a licensing exam. I live alone, but cannot study at home due to the temptation of the internet, TV, breaks, my cats, sleeping etc. I need a place to go other than home where I would bring books/ papers to grade etc, but no laptop to keep me off of Facebook/Gawker/ and bullshit time wasting websites.

I was looking for a good place that is well lit,comfy, has late evening hours till 11pm or midnight (10 pm earliest), and will let me sit over coffee/tea/maybe a baguette for several hours.

I hate the Tea Lounge on Union as it sounds like the MTV music channel and its annoying. I don't need absolute quiet, but I hate blasting hip hop/ Katy Perry top 40. Any

suggestions?

    Ozzie's on 5th ave is big and has a bunch of people working from there for long hours and the staff doesn't care. Not sure when they close though.

    I went by. They close at 10. Their baked goods were really yummy too!

    Have you ever been to the lyceum? I am going to try that too.

    Only for a quick cup of coffee, not to work, so I can't say what the experience is. Somewhere nearby there, maybe further on 4th towards 1st St is a newish cafe with wifi, food etc.. that posted here on Brooklynian (I think on the park slope board) and they told me they'd welcome people working there for long hours. I can't remember the name of the place ](*,)

    I've been wanting to check it out for some of the same reasons you mentioned.

    Not sure what hours you're looking for, but what about the Central Library? They serve coffee, sandwiches, etc., there and you can find a table and chair just about anywhere -- the fiction room, history room, etc.

    One thing that is really bad about public libraries are the hours! If you read my question, you would have noted that most libraries are out of the question since the latest hours seem to be 8pm. I needed 10pm bare minimum. Most libraries close between 5 and 6 pm. The Central Library closes at 6 on Saturday and 5 pm on Sunday. During the week its only open until 9 pm. I work late and would only arrive half an hour before closing, so its useless. I found the Lyceum hours are pretty bad for me also.

    When I was studying for my licensing exam I would go to Barnes and Noble and sit in their cafe. Back then the one on 23rd st in the city was open very late as were a couple of others. You may want to look at the one in PS although I seriously doubt its going to be open later than 8-9pm during the week.

    I agree with Barnes and Noble. I used to go to the one in Union Square to get all of my work done when in grad school.

    Put a chair in the bathroom. Take your stuff in there, lock the door, turn on the bathroom fan and get to work. . . really you don't need to drink coffee or eat. Will power. Mind over matter. What's important to you, for Godsakes?

    Who has a desk and chair in their bathroom? Only an extremely weird person would ever want to work in their bathroom. That is one strange reply "betcha"

    Thanks homeowner. I have been using Barnes and Noble at Union Square which *IS* great. Its just the commute home at night when the trains begin to get local. I was kinda hoping to find something close to home where it was a 5 minute bus or train ride or a ~7$ cab ride. Still thanks everyone
