If you can't make the above meeting because it is during work hours, you can attend this one in the evening:
The next meeting of Community Board 8 will be held on Thursday, February 10, at 7:00 PM, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabiliation (CNR), which is located at the northeast corner of Classon Avenue and Park Place.
Representatives of the Department of Design and Construction will be presenting on the reconstruction of Eastern Parkway from Washington Avenue to Grand Army Plaza.

The extra dimension to this project that added years and millions is the Water and Sewer main replacement. Quite wisely, the powers that be decided to hold off on the DOT/median related work on the surface until the underground work was able to be completed - no sense in making it all pretty and then tearing it open.
This was NOT well-communicated during the last 7 years...

Will the deadly traffic crossings on GAP's north end ever be people friendly? (as they say: “There are no atheists in Grand Army Plaza.”)
-
So far they have put some new pedestrian islands at GAP, and have been replacing the water and sewer mains that run between GAP and Washington. Large equipment and people with shovels and safety vests have been onsite for about 4 months, and it is almost done.
Next up, they will dismantle the present median, while not creating a cave-in that destroys the subway below.
If all goes well, two years from now (2013), we are supposed to have new, larger median and calmed traffic.

I wonder if this project will involve reopening the Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum 2 & 3 train entrance that was much closer to the library and convenient for its patrons? Sadly, it was closed some number of years ago.

It will not provide this.
Howdy, Stranger!
