MTA Bustime on the B63

This shit is seriously cool. I used it today to get to trader joes and it was right on point- the text said the bus was 3 stops away and, low and behold, I could see it 3 stops away when I peered down the block.

Also cool is the ability to track when a bus is coming without actually being at the stop- while I was in TJ i knew how much time I had until the next bus, so I was able to take my time looking for a last-minute product and I arrived at the stop about a minute before the bus came.

I think this will really change the way people use buses in the city. I hope its expanded to more lines soon.

  • Man this would be so great. I have friends who use it in SF

  • I happened upon it last week on the B63 (not a bus I often take) and it was fantastic. I've just written a letter to the president/ceo of NYC transit, copied to the head of the NYC bus division and the president of the MTA applauding this new system and encouraging them to apply it to the B69 and B67 routes (which are the ones I use most).....

I encourage everyone to do the same.....

  • I've used it 4 times now on my phone and it's worked very well. It did lose an approaching bus once for a few stops, but overall extremely useful. I wish they'd roll out an app and expand the program to all buses.
