  • Thanks Daily Heights for hosting this forum. There's a lot to talk about in Red Hook--development, politics, traffic, uppity Yalies...Have at it.
  • Do you know any uppity Yalies in RH?
  • A couple in my apartment. And then there's also this: "Yale Students Imagine the Future of Red Hook"

  • Subject: urban bungalows?????????????????

I'm concerned in regards to "Yale School of Architecuture...thoughts of turning the redhook housing development into URBAN BUNGALOWS.....what is the meaning of urban bungalows??!!! who would benefit from such an idea??!!...who'll reside in them??!!.. While renovation is being done were are all the tenants that live there now supposed to go??!!!...people only think about what will be good for them and how they could profit....did anyone think about the displacement of such a large body of people....it just saddens me

trust me i'm all for bettering the community in a whole...but i would like to see EVERYONE get a slice of the pie.....(EQUAL SLICES)

    Good Day All!
  • Subject: just a class project

Evee it's just a school project not an actuality.
I think that there would be a pretty large reaction to turning the nabe into urban bungalows.

I wonder if they teach these students to look around New Haven at the poverty there, or if they just stay within their ivy covered walls?
  • I saw that show yesterday - they were meaning 'bungalow' in the sense of low-rise, single family dwelling, not unlike a lot of existing structures in RH. There was one project that I found pretty strong, the rest looked very 'student-y' to me.

But it is worth a look.
  • Subject: response

Thanks, for the heads up KarateKitten,

I was starting to worry....because i'm a redhook city housing resident and there's so much talk in the air about converting...the development that anytime I hear such conversations or discuss be it neighborhood meeings or word of mouth...it just make me stop and wonder WOW what next...

    Good Day
  • Subject: keep going to the meetings

i can't imagine that they would ever turn the housing projects into condos. that would be irresponsible. but keep going to the civic association meetings and raising your voice!
  • I have a hard time believing that the public houses will be privatized also, but speaking with people at the Old Timers' Day, it was obviously something that the community is worried about.

It would be nice if the city would aleviate those fears.
  • Evee, I spoke with someone who works for NYCHA last weekend. He said that those rumors are as old as the houses themselves. NYCHA has never privatized any public houses and he assured me their were no plans to do so now.
