Whats a good sushi joint to take some sushi fans in

prospect heights or park slope? thanks for suggestions :p. i'm not a sushi fan at all, but my peeps are into it.

    If you have the money, the sushi restaurant at Blue Ribbon on 5th ave is amazing. AND I've seen drunken Japanese businessmen having a huge sake/sushi-fest in there before. Which was pretty awesome.

    I 2nd Taro. But only if the owner is behind the sushi bar. usually on Friday and Saturday.

    Personally, I think Blue Ribbon Sushi is overrated and overpriced. The sushi is good, but there are other places I like better that aren't as expensive. I like Oshima on 7th the best in the Slope. Jpan is good too, but has no sushi bar, which might matter to your sushi friends. I went to Taro once and was unimpressed - but my friend who took me who went there often said it was an off day for them.

    I like Taro, Blue Ribbon, and also that place across Flatbush from Taro. I can't think of the name, but it's on that short little section of 6th Ave that's on the PH side of things.

    Another Oshima fan here.

    My dining companion enjoyed the omakase at Blue Ribbon much more than I did, but that's another option - probably has the nicest/most upscale atmosphere of PS sushi joints.

    I love Sushi at Blue Ribbon but as a few steps below place try Mura.the physical space at Mura is lovely and there is more engagement between patrons and those preparing your food. Prejudice here, I suppose since we have eaten there often and in Blue Ribbon we are "strangers" who come i occasionally when we find ourselves with a pocket full of money.

    gen, taro, or geido. gen, for the really creative rolls and dishes; taro is always fresh and delicious; and geido for the eclectic ambiance - for geido in particular, i love to sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs prepare the sushi.

    I just ate at Ten on 7th Avenue this past Saturday. Really loved it. Creative menu and reasonably priced.

    I'm pretty sure when I walked by Ten the other day that I saw they got a B grade hanging in their window. But I'll double check that.

    Are you talking about Koto? We use them for delivery orders. For going to the restaurant, we always go to either Taro or Gen.

    Bring them to Blue Ribbon if they eat sushi or sashimi. If they're eating rolls then skip Blue Ribbon (and the extra money you'd be paying) and go to Geido or Taro.

    I went to Taro for the first time a few weeks ago and while the food was fine, the whole place smelled like @ss. Most sushi restaurants have a scent, but this was overwhelming and made my visit very unpleasant.

    Ten on 7th avenue is the place to go. Really nice staff, good environment, great sushi, no @ss smell.

    P.S. Blue Ribbon is very overrated.

    Hey Armchair, if you don't mind, let us know what happens after you go. I'd be curious where you decided to go and what your Peeps thought of it. I'm going to need closure at some point concerning this thread.

    will probably do some of the food places soon :p. one of my friends is going to be unemployed time to hangout etc...

    Went by Ten and they do have a B grade. I checked and one of the reasons is that "Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations." That isn't good. Also, their last inspection in December would have been a C.

    Did anybody mention Kappa Sake House?? That place is AMAAAAAZING. My personal favorite and it's always filled with ex-pat Japanese (gotta mean something, right?).
