Cheeburger Cheeburger is open

edited November -1 in Park Slope

Tuesday is their official first day in business. Tried the burger today at the soft open and it's not half bad- close to Grand Canyon style. Onion rings were seriously good, though.

  • there locations in Queens and Long Island are very large and the one in Flemington NJ is huge. The restaurant they have at JFK is very popular. I have not been to the Texas location but it probably goes with the state moto..everything is bigger in Texas.

  • Oh joy! I can't wait for this to open. All Park Slope will then need is a Denny's or a Bob's Big Boy and we will have it all!! <snark>

    :lame:

  • Is it open? I saw what looked like a lot of people in there yesterday eating, and people coming and going. But a sign on the door said they were training and that they were opening soon. Not that it really matters.

But now that I see it up and running it's not really an eye sore or anything. I hardly think it's going to ruin the neighborhood. Also, it doesn't scream "chain" to me because I'd never seen or heard of one before. But there is that stretch on 5th ave - where there is a Dominos, 7-11 and Rite Aid - that feels like I've entered a suburban portal.

BTW a Denny's would be pretty awesome if they still give you a free grand slam on your birthday.

But what I really wish they opened in that place was a Golden Corral. I keep seeing ads for this place on TV but have never actually seen one in real life. From what I can tell, it's just a step or two down from Sizzler. Does it really exist? I have no idea what the F seafood newburg is, but now I want some.

  • @Piano Yesterday was their soft open- all the food served was free of charge during the day, which is certainly nice!

Golden Corral would certainly be interesting around here. All you can eat buffet! Apparently their closest one is near Philly.

    Brooklynian field trip?

  • You're kidding. I missed out on free food? Damn it all.

Ha, DJ, it sounds like you did just what I did after I posted - I went to their Web site to find the closest one and it's in north Philly.

  • golden corral was a staple of my highschool life since I was the only female of a group of about 8 close male friends- anytime one of them helped me paint a room or helped my family moved (7 houses/apts during my 4yrs in highschool) we took them to golden corral. They would literally bring the entire PAN of lasagna back from the buffet (as in, taking the pan OUT of the buffet) which was not only deemed acceptable, but was also almost encouraged.

The staff knew us there. Where else can you pay $7.99 and eat for HOURS? Shit, just the soft-serve and sundae bar is worth that much in NYC prices.

Ohhhhh golden corral...a blast from my past *laments*

the food isn't fantastic but I would say it's on-par with a large portion of shitty, non-buffet, non-chain restaurants here in BK. And it would sort of be a destination in brooklyn. LONG LIVE GOLDEN CORRAL! I don't even want to think of how much they would make if they opened anywhere near a highschool...

  • That sounds awesome. Now I definitely want a Golden Corral. That's hilarious that they'd take the entire pan of lasagna. Did they take the can of Sterno too?

But the name still creeps me out a bit. Makes it sound like they either specialize in serving horses or serving horse.

I grew up on Big Boy. It made me the man I am today.

  • Blech- walked by this place on Sunday night. The neon pink lighting is nauseating at best. Horrible eye sore.

  • I walked past about an hour ago. Every table was occupied. The child to adult ratio was around 3 to 1.

  • I went in last night. It was about what you'd expect. The food was good. For the first time in a while I got the sense that French Fries were cut from actual potatoes and weren't greasy like Five Guys. The chocolate peanut butter milkshake had the perfect balance of the two flavors. A warning about toppings: apparently tomato, lettuce and onions are assumed even if you request other toppings. Yes, there were a lot of kids and yeah, the ambiance seems like early Automat. Apparently, kids meals come in cardboard convertibles if that's something your kid's into. There were two "one pounders" while I was there. If you can finish their big burger, you get your picture on the wall. A dubious honor but there it is.

  • Speaking of an automat, I noticed there's one in the lobby of the hospital waiting to open. It's called POD - Provisions on Demand. I like the idea of an automat comeback. I already use the hospital as my ATM, soon I can go there for lunch too. However, it still has a sign saying "Coming in Feb 2011."
