  • When the owners did a presentation at Tish James' town hall meeting back in the summer, they indicated that they would be open by labor day 2010. Clearly that date has come and gone with no opening. We haven't heard any official updates since...

  • Biked by yesterday and peeped in the windows.

The shelves looked 70% stocked, though the refrigeration units did not seem hooked up yet.

So it "looks" like soon, but how soon is the true question.

  • I stopped by last week and a guy said one week and gave me the number to call, but when I called today I was told another week.

  • anyone know when the coffee shop/diner on the corner of classon and st. marks is supposed to open?

  • I spoke with a store employee today and they said it would open in "two weeks." However, I was also told it would open in December.

For everyone's reference, the supermarket's phone number is 718-789-2151.

  • This morning, the following work was occurring:

    A. Coffee was drunk while a truck prepared to pour concrete for the new sidewalk.

    B. Plumbing work was being completed in the basement (determined by seeing a plumbing truck with its welding generator running, along with its cables running into the basement).

In related news, I agree with SnowboardQueen, the inside looks like it is stocked.

...the only things that appear to be missing are the perishable items

  • They're waiting for some inspections to be done before they can open.

  • there was more plumbing and concrete sidewalk work occurring today (wednesday)

  • Fingers crossed they will open soon as I'm still not completely satisfied with any of the other supermarkets in the area and still find myself going shopping in the Key Food in my old neighborhood in Park Slope, two years later.

I truly hope Compare Supermarkets is the answer I'm looking for.

  • The finishing details are being made before the bread and perishables are delivered.

If you look to the back of the first photo, you will find that we will no longer have to walk to Nostrand for fish :)

    Modern and clean! ....wide aisles!

  • Excellent - I'm looking forward to them opening the doors.

  • wow, this looks like a serious grocery store. awesome.

how did you get in there?

  • Mr. Met- My dog and I took these photos on the cell phone as we held it against the storefront glass windows.

oh. i thought the first one was taken looking across the back of the store.

  • photo 1: What you see as you walking into the store, with your money.

photo 2: What you see as you are leaving the store, having exchanged your money for groceries.

...the photos continue to depict a serious grocery store, and perhaps even an awesome one.

  • frozen-food truck outside the store today...

also, work continues at the diner/coffee shop on the corner of classon and prospect

Have you considered the Food Coop? That would be closer to you than Key Foods. Key Foods was the reason I joined the coop when I moved here. I was living on Garfield - one block from the Key Food but was so put off by the produce that I joined the Food Coop. The food is great and the prices are unbeatable. That is as long as you don't mind doing a 2 1/2 hour shift every four weeks and don't have issues with hippies or lesbians.

  • Fuck man I am so jealous of you guys, I remember when that place was a methadone clinic

Hopefully it won't be haunted ooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOhhhHHHHHH

  • you left too soon CTK.

  • Wife, dog and I walked over to take a peek inside (it's only around the corner, after all). We are very optimistic. Very.

  • another food truck today, and a redbull truck

  • I've been making a small detour with the dog on the morning walks - I'll be (more) excited when the cooler shelves are no longer bare.

  • As per this flyer, their Grand Opening sale dates begin Friday 3/18/11 and end on Thursday 3/24/11.

    ...which I take to mean

    they open

    on Friday 3/18/11!

These flyers are being handed out by a person at the Eastern Parkway - Museum stop at this very moment.

  • WOOOO!

  • My building got flier bombed as well -- Friday for sure!

  • I'll be (more) excited when the cooler shelves are no longer bare.

no longer bare as of this morning

  • From their flier, which may be temporary specials to lure as many people in as possible, their prices already beat the shitty Key Food on Nostrand & St. Marks.

And I used to think the Key Food in my old neighbor hood on 5TH Ave was "ghetto", I truly was not prepared for their Nostrand Ave location - which I hear has improved over the years, but still reeks of sub standard quality on every level imaginable.

If Compare is any where above and beyond Key Food on Nostrand on any level, that extra block will be well worth the walk!

  • Double post - sorry.

  • Well get your shopping carts it opens tomorrow - Friday.
