9th Street btw 5th/6th closed down/massive police presence...why?

Hey everyone. Today at around 11:45, I was walking out of the post office on 9th and up towards the 5th ave when police started taping off the sidewalk and closed 9th between 5th and 6th. I saw a massive police presence up by the YMCA, and word on the street was a disgruntled resident, possibly with weapons and/or hostage? Haven't seen anything about with any real facts...anyone have the scoop?

  • Thanks doldrums...I assume we'll get a full story eventually, but that explains it.

  • I was walking down 9th street with my shopping cart at about this time and encountered one of those yellow strip "do not cross police activity" type signs. there was a lady police officer on the corner who asked me where I was going. My response )duh) was C Town.. hey I had the shopping cart and I was a little ole lady... and she said no problem.

It was so clear that the problem was at the YMCA that it was no giant leap to assume that some altercation had taken place over there. It is not the first time. Warning.. If you find yourself momentarily homeless do not take the 30 day option and move in there. the real troublemakers are grandfathered in and have been living there a long while. My guess.. it one of those long timers that caused the problem.. whatever it was.

It would make anyone nuts actually living in the YMCA for more thna 30 days.
