Floyd- Union and 5th

Nice, last I heard they were looking at a March opening, that look like the case still?
-
hope this doesn't sound dumb-but, what is Floyd park Slope? New condos?
-
FloydNY is a bar in Brooklyn (I believe it's in Brooklyn Heights), and they are opening up a companion bar, that is supposedly going to be called Union Hall. It's that white brick building next to the gym on Union, between 5th and 6th Aves.

Last I saw from the outside, they still had some work to do, but Lavern here says they've gotten a move on. -
Any update on the site?
I went to FloydNY the other day, nice space, couches, etc.
Bartender said it was supposed to be open in March, so hopefully soon. -
Unfortunately that is probably not going to happen. They are pretty far away from opening. I would go with Mid April at the earliest. But it will be good. backyard and all...

I check this out the other day, it was open since some electricians were working on it. The inside seemed pretty finished, just some polishing up to do. Any word on when this will be opening?

Subject: anyone been to union hall?
I am wondering if people have been to Union Hall and what they think of it. I haven't been there yet, and have heard mixed reviews. Thanks for any feedback you can give me. -
The first few weeks were absurdly, perhaps unpleasantly (depending on your perspective) crowded. A lot will depend on whether that lasts.
If it's not to crazy, and you like bocce, the courts are great. The music venue downstairs will be great for intimate shows (though I haven't seen one yet--has anyone?), and it's great they have at least that little sliver of outdoor space. Nothing about it seemed terrible, except that some drinks were very expensive, and some might not delight in the unisex restroom.
On the other hand, those bookshelves filled with books only a decorator could love, and the big globes sitting beside them by the leather club chairs, all feel for the moment brand spanking new and fairly artificial, like they could use some age, at least, and to my mind, clearing out. It's as though the decor has aspirations to a formality that doesn't quite match its young, bubbly, bustling clientele. It's hard to know who it matches. It feels a bit put-on.
Not bad; not great. -
I was looking for something closer to Floyd. Personally, I am a huge soccer fan, and was looking forward to having them play English League games on Sat/Sun mornings/afternoons. However, with no TVs, that ain't possible.
I've only been there once, in the afternoon, and it was pleasant. The only other thing I would say is that it seems sectioned off. What I mean is that there are groups of sitting areas, and it doesn't seem like there would be room to interact at all. Seems kinda cliquish. Most of my friends live in Manhattan or the suburbs, so it's not like I am getting a group of 8 to go out in Park Slope on the weekends.
It might be totally different at night, I don't know.
I've heard people say they have a good jukebox, and I didn't look at it, but whatever was playing when I was there was terrible.
That said, the decor is great, the bocce ball courts very cool, and when I was there, the drinks were reasonable.
So to sum it up for me........no TVs to catch a game on (even during a lull in the conversation), cliquish seating areas, ok music (talking about the music I was hearing while there, not the bands, and not necessarily the jukebox), decently priced drinks (compared to Manhattan), good deal on the bocce courts, and very, very nice decor.
That said, if they got TVs and showed EPL games, I would probably be there for 8-10 hours a weekend.

whelp, I detest sports (I know, I'm a bad lesbian) so I cannot give a review of this place, but, I noticed a new sports bar opened on 5th, next to the Key Food, called "VooDoo Lounge" on the last day of the World Cup, people were flowing into the streets, and I saw some tvs in there.
That said, if they got TVs and showed EPL games, I would probably be there for 8-10 hours a weekend.
again, it's 100% sports bar, you want TVs and Beers, I'm sure they've got 'em. -

Did you see my response on the other one about Black Sheep? I believe they show them on their projection screen on Saturdays. At least worth a try. -

I think it's the way the furniture is arranged. The bookshelves do separate the sitting areas. There is no way in hell, I would individually approach a group sitting in a circle in one of those sectioned-off areas and ask to squeeze in on a sofa. It would feel as if I were crashing a tight-knit private party. Even if the group was welcoming, the furniture arrangemnets and the ways people must sit does foster "initmate" gatherings of people who already know each other. Besides the lack of feng shui furniture flow, the music was also too loud for people to make introductions. -

I can't comment on the jupebox, because the music was too loud for me to hear it. While the seating areas were awkward, I also liked the decor and bocce ball courts and thought the drinks were reasonable compared to Manhattan.

How was it? -
The game went great, a United 5-1 win.
Black Sheep is kinda small, but the folks were very friendly, and the projection TV was huge.
I will certainly be back.
I could see a good crowd in there for EPL games, they just need to do some advertising for it.
Howdy, Stranger!
