    Actually, we're not a democracy. We're a Republic.

And we may be a nation of laws, but we've also become a nation of fat asses.

Piano- ssssshhhhhh, people like to think that we're just big-boned.

    They aren't physical education majors

Neither was I. I thought this was something we learned in 6th grade, no?

  • Hey, you can't change your post that much after I've cited it. It's unholy, like when Superman reversed the rotation of the Earth to turn back time.

Though no one seems to point out that reversing the rotation of the Earth wouldn't reverse time. It would merely cause the sun to rise in the West and set in the East.

  • sshhhh, you may force them to realize that objective laws and procedures are required.

....this would cause them to think about whether ULURP was followed.

If they concluded it was, they then may have the integrity to conclude the lane should remain WHETHER THEY HAVE EVER BEEN ON A BIKE IN THEIR LIFE out of respect for the system.

I'm not sure you are talking to me. ....but I only change my posts for grammar after I post them. (I find such changes makes me sound less like an idiot)

  • poking plots holes in superman is where I draw the line.

  • catwalkertexasranger wrote: Dogs and cats agree with me also.

<<< the dog in whynot's avatar certainly does. It is consistent with his overall world view.

  • I don't know much about the law. I did not know you can sue the government to undo something it did because the rational for doing it was based on a (perceived) lie.

Wouldn't it have been wonderful if the NBBL people would have used their powers for good and undid the whole Iraq thing.

And the Lois Lane of that Superman movie era was certainly not worth the trouble.

Yeah, I'm talking to yous. You changed political science to physical education and added in the big boned comment. But I don't actually care, I was kidding about that ... you can change whatever you want. It's your post.

I think that that was mistakenly directed at me for riffing off of you.

    Maybe.

edited to add - Yes. I was right.

Dear Idle, I don't know you and am not trying to piss you off. This is hammers only see nails kind of thing. Where the people opposed to the path want a do over.

The type of lane shown in the video is common all over western europe. It won't necessarily work here.NY riders volumes does not dictate a lane that big and the controls that go with it. Germany,Holland and Belgium have lights and or signs giving cyclists instructions that are co-coordinated w the auto traffic. NY is advanced but still has lots of supplemental aspects to address as the use of bicycles increases. Your argument about anywhere and everywhere parking is valid and noted. Using fences and parking meters is not a solution to parking for bikes. An example take away 2 parking spaces on the street and make a double bike rack you remove the space for 2 cars but create a space for 100 bikes. 2 people displeased 100 happy.

I started typing before I saw your links to Park Ave.

In my opinion a poor example the BQE may better fit your use of land. The growing pains were painful to lots of people. We have a chance to correct a flaw in our transportation history. Currently we don't need 3 lanes on the PPW. The square footage can be repurposed for something sustainable, green and although not totally safe..way fuckin safer than car travel. Thats for everybody. People and cars hit by bicycles fair better than anything hit by a car. Dogs and cats agree with me also.

We tried the experiment where everybody drove,no/little mass transit and a country full of urban sprawl. Any story of old-time Brooklyn will be about hanging out outside and playing ball in the street. That was before everybody needed 1,2 or 3 cars a household. Look at the demographics and people are moving back to the cities. This time around they are going to telecommute and work in smaller spaces creating things smaller than Chevys or Chryslers. We should probably embrace people who want to ride a bike to work, drunk, to bring their child to school or buy groceries. We have seen the car model and it's mess. I expect after reading this your mind will be totally changed and you will go out and snuggle with the first bike rider you see. If it's not me oh well but I am sure they will enjoy the love from a car driving convert like yourself

I am a bike rider. Summers only. mostly, but I pride myself on having biked most of the boroughs and then some in my 45 years of living here. And yes, I love my car. I like being able to get the fuck out of Dodge once in awhile and go on roadtrips. Sometimes to Hoboken for a Fiore hero, sometimes to Canada or any of the 50 states for a vacation. The only times I use my car here in most cases is when I have to transport supplies, which is rare, or if I head down to fairway, which is semi-rare. As far as Park Avenue goes, those are the only online pictures I could think of on the spot. Yes, the BQE is a much better example, as is the Belt Parkway. And your idea about taking away two spaces for bikes is pretty damn good. I would go further and say MTA buses should get those bumper clips that hold bikes like you see in other cities such as both Portlands, Seattle and Vancouver. I stick to my guns though when I say the bike lanes here should hug the curb on the driver's side.

I have nothing but love for bike riders. I'm even a member of TA. But just as I say driving safety needs to be enforced, I'm going to say laying down bike lanes and bicycle safety laws have to be well thought out.

  • Oh wait no, it wasn't you Whynot, it was WhyFi. I get you two confused because the images on your avatars are so similar.

I find that very hard to believe. I don't care who reports it. I've had two people I know get seriosuly injured and killed on 5th Ave because of the mix of small width and double parking on 5th. From what I understand statistics have only begun for bicycle related accidents, no? And I believe Washington is a tad wider, but you have a lot of lunatics and commercial vehicles (including buses) heavily using this street. I would go with Clinton Ave and carve a detour to Underhill. Just a thought.

Let me retract this a little. For some reason, and I suspect high blood sugar, I interpreted this as between Park Ave & EP not Atlantic & EP. So seeing how Clinton ends at Atlantic, it's moot.

sadly, some have more power than others. They can effectively sue, and others can not.

It often sucks, unless you are one of them.

Today, "they" seem to be the folks who live along PPW.

....assuming they don't actually believe that a procedure was violated OR data was manufactured OR there was collusion, they seem to believe they can lose at their community board mtg, then simply sue.

its that last viewpoint that is especially problematic. If its the last issue, hopefully they will be told "nope, that isn't how this works" and be sent home.

If its one of the former ....that was some seriously sloppy work by DOT and TA and they should have known better.

  • OK, so are we all clear on this? Idlewild hates all bicycles, cyclists and bike lanes in the world ](*,)

it is also moot b/c it was implemented only as a result of having passed the city's ULURP process.

nah, the enemy is harder to find than that. let's keep looking.

...who will come on this thread next and dare not want to make the world a giant bike path, free of cars?

(wait, I'm not sure I want that.)

I was being sarcastic. Maybe I'm misreading his posts, but it doesn't sound like he supports the bike lane's removal. I'm not sure why people think otherwise.

    I was being sarcastic squared.

....somewhere there is a devil, and god damn it, some of us have spent our entire lives looking for him.

It kinda sucks that the enemy is not idlewilde.

OK, so is this sarcastic too? (sarcasm cubed). Where does it end?

    - sarcasm (?)

  • In a chasm of sar?

  • Does it get burned at the stake? Drowned? Or does it confess its sins?

  • booklaw said:

    any of the above

    or

    none of the above

yup, that's how we know we got the right one

  • whynot_31 said:It kinda sucks that the enemy is not idlewilde.

We can always just create a straw man like the Republicans always do. It's worked well for them.

If it floats, then it is a duck.

I don't. Grazi. Now, can we get back on the retro-subject of double-wide mommy strollers?

  • not yet.

I think there are still a few teenage girls, unmarried women and lesbians to be interviewed.
