Lost Cat FOUND?
Hello all - hope this works.
I befriended a young brindle cat this afternoon on Franklin between Park/Sterling. He(she?)'s a sweetheart and basically jumped in my arms when I called it over. Could be a stray but something tells me otherwise, though there was no ID.
Your cat?
Give me eye detail and the ratio of black:tan paws and we'll arrange to meet up. In the meantime I'll take good care of him/her.

oh, and any advice on litter training?
-
I know very little about cats but I'm pretty sure you can't train them
From my experience with some accidental fosters, if you give them a litter box (or any boxish thing (I once used a foil roasting pan) with litter in it, they will use it. -
It sounds like the little cat I've seen hanging out on the corner of Park and Franklin for weeks now. You might want to ask the guys at the corner store there. I know they had an older cat in their store at one point.

Get the cat an open litter box or get a big disposable tin pan, fill it with lots of litter and surround the area with some newspaper incase s/he misses. My cat likes to do his duty after he eats, so keep an eye on yours and maybe keep him locked in the bathroom with his box when he's ready to go, so he doesn't go elsewhere.
Also, I'd post on craigslist/petfinder and put fliers out for "found cat"
OpposumQ, would Fido add a found cat posting or do they only do dogs?
-
Cats generally do not wander more than 2 or 3 houses from their homes, so if you post fliers on the block that will usually cover the area of the possible owner.
-
Yes, Fido will post lost/found cats.

Thanks for bringing in this cat! Hopefully it has an owner and will be claimed quickly. Post flyers around the area, post on Craig's List, and call 311 and report the cat as found. If you need a free neuter appointment for the cat please PM me. Thanks again! There are so many lost/stray cats in the hood it's wonderful when people are able to help them.

You could also take the cat to a vet's office and ask them to check for a microchip (they shouldn't charge for that). I expect that this was someone's pet, possibly given as a gift at the holidays, and they decided they didn't want her any more and dumped her. Feral cats are really skittish of humans so it is likely that this is a dumped cat. I hope you can find a place for this cat in your home, if you take her to a shelter, her life expectancy will likely be measured in days. I would encourage you to give her a name, take her to the vet for vaccinations and neutering (if that hasn't been done already) and give her a home.

Quick update - the cat's already using the litter box I bought and is going to the vet on Monday for a checkup and microchip check. In the meantime a post is up on Craigslist and I'll print out a few signs to put up on the block.
Thanks for the good words folks. I'm considering keeping her.
