homeless under Prospect Expwy
The last few weeks, I've seen an obviously homeless mentally-ill man around the South Slope. The last few days I've noticed that he is apparently living under the Prospect Expressway at 4th Avenue. Is there anything that can be done to get this person help? I'd like to see him get the services that he needs.

Call 3-1-1.
Ask that a street outreach team from Department of Homeless Services meet with him.
Thanks for being concerned.
-
You're missing the point. I believe the real issue here is whether the homeless person is technically in Park Slope or not. We may not always be effective at helping others, but damn - can we define their location for them or what?
-
If he's in Park Slope, we should definitely help him. It is a nice neighborhood, and his presence sullies it more than it would another neighborhood.
Despite what the OP states, this isn't about helping him at all. This is about getting him out of our sight and out of our mind.
(note: this post and the one by Piano are baiting sarcasm. The authors are bored. Please do not respond with insults to Piano and Whynot. After all, we are geniuses.)

Do not listen to Whynot. We are not sarcastic, and I'm not bored - I simply have a ton of work of responsibility that I'm neglecting. Neither are we good-hearted people. Please do respond with insults as we are utter morons and hostility is all we understand.
In fact, I plan to go there right now and lecture this homeless guy that there is no such thing as south Park Slope, and then taunt him for living in a less desirable neighborhood than I do.
-
Piano-
When you go see him, make sure to give him a copy of Atlas Shrugged, because surely that is why he is in the situation he finds himself: The government has trampled his Individual Rights. -
Get him The Overton Window by Glenn Beck. They may have it on Kindle.
-
Piano, that is just mean.
Why would you give him something by Glenn Beck? The homeless guy has done nothing to us to warrant such treatment.
-
I'm sure Mr. Beck will discover some crime against America this guy is perpetrating, and will also point out similarities with Hitler.
-
true.
....curlyjj said nothing about the homeless guy being a "good muslim-hating-christian".
Until the homeless guy convinces us that it is his worldview that all muslims are out to kill us, I'm listening to Glenn Beck: He is to be assumed to be the enemy, treated as such, and therefore not worthy of any help.
After all, sympathizing with the plight of people who may be tolerant of our sworn enemies is down right un-american, and a threat to us all.
Let's go beat the crap out of him.
(remember, this is sarcasm people!)

I like the way you think Piano.
You and George "Dubya" Bush know the value of preemptive strikes, and we are clearly the only ones who can see the truth.
What could go wrong?
[have a good weekend everyone!]

Long time listener, first time caller. I'd like to applaud both whynot and Piano for their willingness to approach this issue with the forthrightness and honesty it deserves. I'm sick of having open border amnesty-loving social justice Islamofascist fanatics like this homeless guy run my life, and I'm glad to see that other Real Americans feel that way too. Lock and Load, guys.
-
right on, lnelson!
The only way our trailer parks will remain safe is if us freedom loving, pick-up driving, tax paying, Real Americans stick together against the freeloaders who are trying to destroy this country!
We all know that if he'd been home schooled, or sent to a school that allowed him to worship god, he wouldn't be homeless!
....I'm sitting here ready with my AR-15 for when the day comes I need to protect my freedom, and I hope you are too!

Just to play it safe ... you never know, he could be of terrorist descent.
What, you figure his parents were founding members of the Symbionese Liberation Army? Or maybe the Baader-Meinhof Group?
Or is he under 5 years old?

Oh, you know who I'm talking about. Do I have to say it? Fine: Basque separatists. They're everywhere and they're infiltrating all levels of the government, and before you know it they'll be forcing us to speak Catalan (shudder).

Personally, I prefer the Colt Single-Action Army Revolver, soon to become Arizona's official state firearm. I hear that once the bill is passed, state law will grant you immunity for any damage, injury, or death you cause while using this weapon.
-
lneslon-
As I'm sure you are aware, Colt makes the AR-15 too....but you are right, those people in Arizona are really focusing on the important issues: Immigration, firearms, and having too many holidays.
You know, just last night, as I was eating a Manwich, I was thinking about how more people in NYC need to focus on what is important, like having an official NYC firearm.
There seems to be less and less of us Real Americans all the time, and at times I think I'm all alone. Thank god we've got Rush on the radio and our dogs to keep us sane.
-
Manwich? Really?
I think the AR-15 and Rush radio listening are sufficient to prevent us from ever being allowed into the Slope. Did you have to bring Manwich into it?
-
lnelson,
you hear these people?I've got Mrs. Whynot telling me I should change what I eat to be accepted by THOSE PEOPLE in the slope.
I've got Piano telling me he is going to vote for a "weapon" that won't be effective against 3,333,333,333,333,333 people attacking my home at the same time.
Take my word, when they come, they are going to come in huge numbers and I want, and have A RIGHT to be prepared.
I don't want PEOPLE LIKE PIANO or my government telling me I can only have a damn cross bow or a potato gun to protect myself.
Hell no! I'm standing with those who believe in freedom, those who fight to protect my rights to own necessary firearms.
-
Potato gun?
Photo or there's no such thing!

Seriously? You do not know of the potato gun? Everyone should work at least one summer at a construction site. They can be ferocious. I once saw one shot clear across a lake, and the boom was deafening. All you need is some PVC pipe, duct tape, hair spray, a lighter -- and a potato ... and a complete disregard for safety.
-
-
That'll do!
-
Thanks for your advice. The Dept. of Homeless Services said that they would visit him and offer him some nice reading materials from both Glenn Beck and Ayn Rand.

They are also able to offer and provide homeless individuals with food, clothing, shelter and mental health services.
...but let's leave that up to the discretion of the outreach worker.
-
I thought it was called the Dept of Homeless Security - you know, the agency that protects Americans from the homeless.

they were going to name it that, but some other agency with a similar name "grabbed some guy's junk" and takes naked images of them. After a few meetings on the topic, they decided [even in cases when people felt their neighborhood were being sullied] that simply offering people assistance was the way to go.
...of course, some people feel they made the wrong decision.
Howdy, Stranger!
