*he* has an axe to grind, but an anonymous guest who simulataneously posts to four different threads including inaccurate info about Body Reserve, a complaint about Harbor Fitness and damns Crunch for not being a family business doesn't have an agenda?
except that your comment elsewhere about Body Reserve leaving their 7th Ave location is blatantly false, and it seems odd that you'd go to the trouble of posting negative comments about Body Reserve, Harbor and Crunch on four different threads, plus by posting anonymously, you lose credibility.
Seeing as how I know for a fact that Body Reserve did not have a variance for their 7th Avenue location, and was being sued by the owner to vacate the premises, your statement is laughable. I would suggest that you look up the building department records for the 7th avenue property to verify my comments. The truth may surprise you.
Furthermore, a nickname is just like being anonymous. Both of our identities are hidden.
But look up the records, they don't lie. -

As i said previously, I'm no fan of BR. Still, even if you are correct about their C of O, your statement at the other thread that they "left in the middle of the night without telling anyone" is incorrect, since they advertised their new location for quite a while before they left. Also, you point out that the landlord had taken legal action against them, and conveniently forget the part about the disputes that BR had with the landlord about the flooding.
As for the etiquitte of posting anonymously, at least it's easy for the casual observer to see when Kosher Dave or I post. You posted to four different threads anonymously slamming other facilities and singing the praises of Slope. By posting that way, it would be easy for someone to think that there were multiple complaints from multiple people. -

Having worked in the old Park West Realty office at the time, I can properly inform you that commercial tenants are responsible for all conditions in their space. If there was flooding, then it is the responsibility of the tenant to repair. Commercial real estate does not have the restrictive regulations that residential does, because it is assumed that businessmen are intelligent enough to know what they are doing. I am merely stating the facts as they happened then. I have the right to post whatever I desire and on as many topics as I like. That is the whole point of democracy. You have the right to disagree, not to suppress. -

I am also the one who said that this is obviously a personal vendetta. I think we are deviating from the fact that you don't like The Slope, and there are personal or maybe financial reasons why it would be to your advantage to bad mouth this one club or maybe it's owner.
MOD NOTE: this post and the others promoting Slope Health and Fitness appear to be from people with a financial interest in the place. The different guest voices are from the same internet service.

Please show me anywhere on this forum or elsewhere where I have said a single negative thing about The Slope. I have done no such thing. I have only questioned your motives for criticizing their competition. You are incorrect in stating that i have "bad mouthed" the club. -

You seem to be backing off from your original statements. Didn't you say that your landlord owns the gym? It's that's the case then we all know this family. Your landlord I remember as a little kid back in the 70's. You should consider yourself lucky that you have him and not some slimeball.
Both him and his father are old school, and honorable men. I did business with them both, and they were always gentlemen. I remember his Grandfather behind the counter at the old Purity when it was a good place to eat.
I can't believe that you have the gall to badmouth this man. -

I've lived and worked here my whole life, and let me tell you, that the club is a hell of alot better than the old health club that was in there back in the 80's. In fact, the owners of Body Reserve on 5th avenue used to be in that space. Talk about a meathead gym. It was disgusting, and there used to be a restaurant, the old Purity, was above it. The smells, and the rodents that used to be there, was disgusting. No one remembers how bad it used to be. The Slope is a blessing compared to what was there before.
I did think before I spoke. As a “newcomer,†who might appear “young†online, I am eager to pay money TODAY to get fit TODAY. I don’t care about what happened at Slope Health and Fitness or Body Reserve over TWO DECADES ago, when my biggest concern was scoring high on Donkey Kong. In the 1980s, my vision of a gym was limited to Flashdancers doing aerobics in purple leg warmers.
All you newcomers to the area have no idea. People should maybe think before they speak. -

Good for you, Kosherdave! I read your posts and know you say good things about good businesses. You definitely post a good mix of negative and positive experiences. You seem like a guy who tells it like it is. If Slope Health and Fitness thinks they got slammed, they should check out some of things that have been posted about local restaurants on this website and others, like Citysearch and menu pages. -

First off, I THOUGHT my landlord owned a gym, and it MIGHT be that one, but I'm not sure (after this thread started I posted that on another, that I THOUGHT he owned a gym, sorry for not clarifying).
Both him and his father are old school, and honorable men. I did business with them both, and they were always gentlemen. I remember his Grandfather behind the counter at the old Purity when it was a good place to eat.

Second, I do like my landlord, this has nothing to do with them. for all I know, they don't even own a gym/slope or otherwise. So, I am not sure if you know my landlord or not.
WHERE THE HELL DO I BADMOUTH THIS MAN ANYWAY?
I have said nothing bad about him EVER. In fact, in other posts I've sung his praise as a rentor. And futher more, I've said nothing "bad" about these gyms, just that I thought the prices were lower at other gyms or that others were more convient for me, which was my opinion, which you claim people are entitled to... just not me apparently
Also, unless you live in of my landlords buildings, just knowing him since he was a kid is not saying much about his apartments. Judging somewhere to live is not the same as walking into a gym to check it out. I like my apartment, personally, but that does not mean everyone in my building does. But that's another story for another post. -

Just for the record. Here is a list of what I've posted about the gym I think/thought my land lord owns, the one under the tasti-delite:
I can't believe that you have the gall to badmouth this man.the discount I get is not any more than what you get if you walk in off the street, I checked
Which part of that is bad mouthing anyone, much alone my landlord?
Also, I wrote of Body reserve:yeah that's the one I was thinking of. I went in there but did not like the feel.
and later I said of gyms in general that I did not select:I don't have a "personal" vendette against ANY gym. I did not "like" it because it was more expensive, smaller and did not have multiple locations, so yeah, I didn't join, oh and had a higher sign on fee.
Did I miss something? -

Dope is right. Obviously this puppie wasn't properly trained. The intelligence level of this forum has just significantly dropped. Dave, If you do not like your apartment, why did you move into it. For the obvious reason that it must have been better than the units that the other brokers showed you. Therefore it goes to reason that the owner has better apartments than the others that you were shown. Therefore, it goes without saying that your apartment was the best for the price range. It also goes without saying that in small buildings there will be renters that will have artificially low rents. The owner has to only do the minimum in accordance with the rent stabilization law.
This goes back to my previous message. Do not bad mouth or speak in a negative manner when you know perfectly well that it is false. -

*Clarification from other posting: I THINK my landlord owns this place, people seem to be upset that I stated he does. He may or may not. you're backtracking. -

No one seems to mention all of the slope's community service regarding schools, the rainforests, sponsoring youth athletic teams etc.
I hope none of you guys get slammed for upgrading your business tools or decor. The furniture is far from cheap but maybe you don't know the difference between IKEA and high end furnishings. The facility has not been renovated in 6 years so simply put. It's Time, if that's ok with you. All of the equipment has been replaced as promised and there is more to come in terms of size and service. If you like the smell of sweat, dirty machines and trainers who are really actors waitng for a break, i'm sure there is a gym for you nearby but the Slope is not it. We promote a lifestyle not a 45 minute workout. Some people do like massage and others want to go on an outdoor trip with a group of certified and well informed trainers. No one gives away free water but we do have 2 count 'em 2 water fountains that you can drink from free of charge. I wonder how many of you are even from Park Slope or even Brooklyn for that matter. All of our foliage is 100% real. To make a long story short, Let US Live. I know all of this because I am the GM.
P.S. Kosherdave your landlord does own this Fitness Center.
MOD NOTE: This poster eventually tells us, in another thread, that he is the manager of Slope H&F.

I think that everyone is missing the point. The complaints about the club should be listened to by the club. But if the club is addressing those concerns then why all the nasty personal attacks?

This thread is confusing. People discussing gym options + complaints about bad equipment + mysterious insider references + and a gym worker boasting about getting rid of rodents. Time to get off line and go jogging.
Everyone has lost track of why this post was started. -

Yeah, but sometimes it's bit too in-you-face personal. What's up with the cleaning people cleaning equipment WHILE I'm using it. It's great to keep a clean gym, but can't they wait until after customers, who often have lmited time for workouts, are out of their way? -

I've never had that experience. But I always think that at least a clean gym is better than a filthy one. I used to belong to NYHRC downtown. Talk about filthy. I used to wonder if they ever cleaned that place.

Thanks for letting us know. As a newcomer to the prospect heights/park slope area, i've been shopping around for a local gym. Having read your posts in this thread, I will be sure to avoid Slope Fitness. I've no interest in joining a gym where the management is so whiny and hypersensitive to criticism.
