Subject: Don't Deafen Me Before I Drink, Union Hall

After a recent visit to Union Hall at 702 Union Street near 5th Avenue, I have mixed emotions about that place.

I love the idea of having activities other than drinking at bars (i.e. books, bocce, and live performances). I liked the furniture options -- sofas and coffee tables near bookshelves and traditional bar with stools -- within the spacious interior. The energy felt good. The bartender who served me and the crowd seemed friendly. My drink was fine.

However, the music was cranked so loud, I could not hear anyone speak unless they shouted in my ear, so my pals and I walked out after five minutes. I left my drink unfinished, which is very atypical action of a cheap, drunkard like me.

Why do some bars feel the need to ensure their customers go deaf and get sore throats from screaming by the end of the night?

If Union Hall only turned down the music’s volume a few notches, all would have been good, but I had little patience in handling the matter myself, knowing that I could walk into several other near-by bars – as we happily did – and not have to suffer a stereo hangover the next day. :?:

WTF is wrong with an inaccurate acronym? DAM is damn fine. Watch out for us -- we'll be proudly wearing our T-shirts with the logo stamped upside down.

You're right! I'm not drunk enough either. I'm only on my first beer and will try it again after my next two. Once I'm drunk enough to access this site, I'll let you know what I see.

Sure, I'll look out for "Anonymous" and "Guest" wearing those DAM shirts together.
