Best car/limo service to airport
Hey folks:
EmilyM's husband here. I've perused the oh-so-handy Car Service wiki, but it seems to be geared toward local hops for cash. I need to get to JFK tomorrow (Monday) – and it's a business trip, so I wouldn't mind being able to charge it.
Frequent fliers, do you have opinions on the best Propsect Heights–to-airport car services? One that would allow me to book a day in advance?
Sorry to sound so high-maintenance, but I don't want some service that's going to tell me, "Call back tomorrow, 10 minutes before you're ready to leave" – that's what a couple of the services told me several months ago when I needed to reserve, and it was annoying. If you know you've got a flight at a specific time/airport, these guys should be able to take and hold a reservation (insert Seinfeld quip here).

Cheers on 7th Ave in Park Slope is reliable, and you can call them the day before to set up a reservation. They're a little pricier than some, but reliability is key when you're trying to make the flight. I'm not sure about charging it, so you should ask them when you call. -
I take cars to JFK/LGA all the time and I rarely book more than a half hour in advance. Is there a reason why you want to book so far ahead of time, or do you just want to be safe? In the past, I would sometimes book 7th Ave Car Service the night before an early early flight. But more recently, I generally call International (on Washington) and they have a car at my door in 5 minutes.

Brownstone at Union and 7th is expensive, but lets you charge and book in advance and all that kind of stuff.
For regular car services, I found 11th St (recommended by a travel agent a million years ago) to be the only cheap and reliable place that can manage to call about your flight. I've left them round trip info, and had them actually show up at the airport on time for my return flight. It seems a miracle... -

I always used ARICIBO or something like that, they're on 5th ave near the Key foods somewhere around there. They have a flat fee of around 25 bucks and are always prompt. -
I use Cheers all the time and have never had a problem with them -- other than overly chatty drivers. You can (and should) schedule a trip to the airport in advance. I've charged trips on numerous occasions.
I don't find brownstone as reliable as Cheers. I heard they are not doing well financially (of course, I heard that from Cheers ... so take that with a grain of salt).
For work-related stuff, I have an account with Elite Limousine. But that's really pricey. But it's a business expense and therefore a write-off. It gives me the opportunity to have a more comfy ride when I'm stressed out.
But I'd definitely go with Cheers if I were you. -
Oh, and I've also used a company called Evelyn's. They were quite prompt. But I've never taken a trip to the airport with them and don't know if you can charge your trip to a credit card.
Never hurts to know your car service options ....

My husband used Evelyn the other day to go to LGA with no problem. He booked it a day ahead for 4:30AM (yeah, ouch) and they came right on time. And they're on Vanderbilt--support local businesses.

Call Arecibo five minutes before you leave.... and make sure you go Atlantic, N Conduit to JFK, you can get there in 20 mins from PH.

Subject: Thanks, everyone.
Many thanks for all the helpful replies. I've reserved with Cheers (they take credit cards, FYI) and am keeping Arecibo's number handy in case anything goes wrong tomorrow.
It's an early flight, so that's why I wanted to have it squared away ahead of time; I can't guarantee how coherent I'll be in the morning!
Much obliged, Forum folk!
