Moving to Kensington - looking for neighborhood tips how's the safety quotient

Hi, I just put a deposit down on a 1 BR attic apartment in Kensington, on E 4th St and Church and would love people's opinions on the neighborhood's highlights and how safe it is. I come home late very often, 10pm-1am and want to feel safe on my trip home. (I am female.)

Thanks for any feedback!

  • Not for nothing, but shouldn't you have asked that question BEFORE you put down the deposit? But, in any event, it's a great area, quiet, people are out late sitting on the benches along Ocean Pkwy. You won't have anything to be worried about.

  • Thank you, Pragmatic Guy. Graciously put.

  • I don't mean to stress you out, but there have been a few incidents I know of around East 4th and Caton (a block away from Church. An acquaintance was sexually assaulted going home at around midnight, and there was also a robbery on her block last fall.

I don't think Kensington is particularly dangerous, but it's a residential area with not much food traffic at night on the side streets.

I think it's very good that you are on a well-travelled road (Church). So just be mindful late at night. I think you're fine as long as you stick to the main road when it's dark.

You also have that great 24 hour store, Golden Farm, I think at East 4th and Church, so know you can go in there for safety if you ever sense someone is following you.
