Not another new nail salon on Franklin! Well yes, BUT
While it's true that Crown Heights has more than it's fair share of nail salons, however the new spa/salon on Franklin (Posh Salon I think it's called, corner St Marks)
it does look quite different from the ones I've been to and seen in the area.
First of all it's clean the way a salon should be, but I mean clean spotless. It's got a luxurious, serene vibe, and while I was there not once did my serenity get interrupted by a guy yelling about bootleg dvd's or loosies for sale, and rather than to have to attempt to communicate with your nail technician while they scream into their phone, the workers gave their undivided attention, and spoke to their customers softly and with a smile. And while I think my favorite eyelash extension guy (also on Franklin) is the best, it would be nice if he spoke English. The staff here at Posh do. They're a bit more expensive (Ive gotten a mani pedi for as cheap as $14, complete with free warts) but these guys offer the combo for $27. Sans warts. Franklin near the corner of st marks.

Also, was that sarcasm about having another nail salon on Franklin? Between Eastern Parkway and Atlantic Avenue there's only one and it's disgusting.

Unfortunately, I must agree the other place is quite gross
. Perhaps, the competition from POSH will inspire them to "step-up" to compete. -
In order to save time and money I bite my nails for free every week. I strongly recommend it.

I wanted to report on my first visit at POSH Nail Salon on Franklin between Prospect and St Marks. I have to say that from what I have seen this is really great addition to the neighborhood. And this coming from someone who normally goes to Polish on Vanderbilt or the nail place near Scopello's in Fort Greene.
The Good: The staff is super friendly. I was immediately welcomed by the owner ( who has lived in the neighborhood for years) and asked if I wanted something to drink while waiting. The decor is super fresh and bright with exposed brick, white wood and punches of yellow.
I was taken into a nice clean little waxing room. Kara did a great job on my eyebrows and took her time creating the perfect arch. For nails Joy did an amazing pedicure using their spa pedicure setup ( no massage chair though). She introduced me to Shellac for my manicure and though it didnt last the advertised 14 days it did last about 10 days with no chips. I was really pleased with the job on my nails and that everything in the salon was clean and hygienic.
Prices are reasonable a mani-pedi combo is about $30 if I remember correctly (though that may be the special price). Clearly this is more expensive then most places in the hood but not more expensive than Polish or Cure Beauty Bar etc.
The Bad: When I went in they were open for about 3 weeks so they only had a few nail colors on their shelves. But the owner said she would be purchasing new colors for spring. And my final criticism (which is also minor) is that not enough time was spent prepping my feet. I feel like many salons including both Polish and Posh dont spend enough time getting rid of callus and making sure the skin of your feet are super smooth.
The Ugly: Nothing.
This is really a great place and I think they will definitely give area nail salons a run for the money (and customers). Definitely check out Posh Nails and support local business.

I've only experienced one of the non-$14 type places in Brooklyn, which is element in Park Slope. Beautiful place, great service, similar prices ($35 for mani/pedi but 15% on Monday to Wednesday). I live pretty much exactly in-between Polish and Posh. For something a little closer to home, any reason to lean towards one or the other place?

If that's he salon you are referring to, and you are on Underhill, you seem much closer to Posh on Franklin Ave.
Also, Polish on 5th Ave, is ALWAYS packed & crowded. Personally, I totally adored Element - I used to live across the Street from it. I think the fair comparison would be between Element or Posh as the prices are similar.
Also, there are so many factors involved, I would just say visit Posh on Tuesday when they have their specials and then decide.

No, I don't really like Polish on 5th, I forgot I'd been there... I thought it was pretty similar to the cheap places other than the actual price! I meant Polish on Vanderbilt which I haven't tried yet. I'm closer to Washington so that's why I think I'm pretty much right in-between that Polish and Posh. Mani/pedis are rare events for me in general, which is why Polish on Vanderbilt opened so long ago and I've never visited.
I also like Element a lot! Just 10 extra minutes of walking time

Ah, that makes sense there is another Polish Nail Salon, a I to hated the one on 5th. Very nice, sort of aggressive owner, but I was nicked and cut there one too many time to ever go back, despite their rock bottom prices.
Thank you for informing me about Polish on Vanderbilt. I will definitely try out their services, even though POSH is definitely much closer to my current location.
I'm an experimenter at heart and you never know where you may be when in need of a good medi-pedi. I attend a yoga clas near Polish on Vanderbilt and may go after class.
I will do a compare and contrast then.., but it may take a few weeks as I have a brutal schedule approaching.
If you make it to POSH before I make it to Polish, please do post your thoughts.
I'm quite brutal on my feet. Lots of running, skateboarding, snowboarding, dancing.., and am always looking for the perfect place to have them pampered at a reasonable rate.

This is a question about whats the difference between Polish on Vanderbilt vs. Posh Nails on Franklin. Please note I have visited Polish at least 5 times and I only visited Posh Nails once. Based on my experience I would go to Posh since I can get everything there that I can at Polish but Posh is much closer to me. (Though I do love to spread my business around because I would be sad if any of these places closed).
Decor/Ambiance: both have very similar decor and layout. The difference is that Posh has white furniture with yellow as the accent color. Polish has white furniture but the accent color is pink.
Price: seems to me the price list is very similar. Polish is always having specials and the one I remember is cheaper mani-pedi and waxing until Wednesday. Posh I think has cheaper rates Tuesday and Wed too.
Waxing: both have extensive waxing menu ( except only Polish offers a Brazilian. EEK!!!) Both have a clean, private room for waxing and use clean techniques.
Mani-Pedi: both offer spa pedicures (neither places have massage chairs). I usually get pedicures anyway so thats all I should comment on. Both did a great job. Though right now Polish has more nail polish colors than Posh.
Staff: both places have incredibly accommodating, friendly staff.

I am always on the look out for great nail places too. And if its less expensive AND good than I can go more often. There is this one place on Livingston somewhere near the Macy's where you can get an amazing, cheap and clean pedicure. But I always forget where it is and go into the not so great places on that street. My other standby is Butterfly Nail Pavilion in Forte Green right near Scopello's and Connecticut Muffin on Lafayette. Any places where you regularly go for a pedi?

Posh is excellent. I had an amazing eyebrow wax there. Ive got to get back soon.

Glad to hear the waxing is good. Kinda haven't shaved my legs since...August. So I was thinking of doing a "beginning of the spring/summer" waxing and seeing how long I could stretch it. I may stop in this weekend based on the anove reviews.
I've been to get my nails done and have def. enjoyed the experience.
-
I tried a pedicure for the first time and liked the place a lot. At least as good, if not better, than the place on Vanderbilt, and I think less expensive, and certainly more convenient. They did a fine job and were very friendly and nice. I will be back.
-
Too bad they don't do threading- I don't like to use wax on my face.
-
I think they do threading. Check out their service list athttp://www.poshnailsbk.com/

Is this salon still open? Every time I walk by it's closed.
-
Their hours are somewhat unpredictable, but I had a lovely pedicure there last Saturday! Been there a few times and they're always friendly and professional. And their services are affordable.
Howdy, Stranger!
