New Resto at Prospect and Vanderbilt???

Saw them getting ready to open tomorrow. I will give it a chance, maybe hit it up before work.
-
Had the pumpernickel with a light green onion spread and a coffee. I'm not a bagel expert but it seemed really fresh. One thing that is good for me is that they open at 6am and the coffe perefectly drinkable.

Woo hoo.
Are the bagels huge, or normal size?I find the bagels at Bergen bagel to be too huge.
No more walking to Bergen bagel?
-
Walked by this afternoon, looked busy and very nice! We'll give it a try this weekend. I bit my lip at the typo on the window though: "ye olde fashion way." FASHIONED.

Went there around 7 am today... and it was OPEN. I don't know why no other place on Vandy realizes that residents want coffee/eats before 10, so this already a huge plus for the place.
Second, the bagels were hot, fresh, soft in the middle, crisp on the outside, and not at all expensive. I got milk, 3 bagels and an egg sandwich (killer, btw) for $8.
The coffee may have been serve-yourself, but now that I'm saying that I am not sure if it was just the fixins... it was early.
Also, they were totally nice and the place was roomy and stocked with good drinks and healthy snacks. I predict a hit.

We went here this morning and were impressed. They have a decent selection of bagels, breakfast sandwiches, drinks, and deli products. The dark-roasted coffee was great (self-serve) and the staff was very courteous. The prices were fair, too. The only glitch was that the ordering process was a tad disorganized, but I attribute that to it being a new business. The line was practically stretched out the door, so I think it will be successful. Good-bye Bergen Bagel!

I've been twice now (yesterday and today). The store looks good, the selection is nice, and the prices are fair. That said, both of the bagels I've gotten we're a lot softer than I prefer. I think I'll stick with the places where I can get a bit more density and chewiness.
P.S. I like that it's self-serve coffee so I can make it just how I like it. The coffee is okay but nothing fabulous.

Sandwich report: They name their sandwiches after neighborhoods.
I consumed a Carrol Gardens hero, a cliff bar and a can of soda. $9.85
Sandwich was yummy combination of turkey, dried tomatoes and munster cheese.
They have installed dog tiedowns out front. Several people pet Dude while I ate inside.
I predict this place will do well, but do question thier "established in 2010" claim.
-
What's their "ProCro" taste like?
-
Thankfully, I saw no such offering.
But I imagine the sandwich to be very confused and poorly constructed.
-
I was worried that their bagels would be too soft, but I only eat bagels toasted (I know, I know), so it was not a problem for me. Anyway I think everyone is very particular about what they like so no bagel is going to please everyone.
The employees were really friendly on Saturday afternoon. There was an issue with no one knowing how much anything cost, but they'll figure that out.
Good choice of cold drinks, too, and a can of regular Coke was $1. I remember the 75c days well but still cannot bear to pay more than $1. So, pleased with that, too.

I attempted to go again today, but the line was literally stretched out the door. Maybe I shouldn't write Bergen Bagel off just yet, as it probably would have taken me less time to walk down there than to wait in that long line. Still, I'm glad to have this new place on Vanderbilt.
-
They still need to figure out the work flow. The people at the cash register need to wait for the actual bagels to be prepared and passed down. I got the wrong kind of cream cheese and got a seriously upset stomach within one hour. The guys aren't wearing gloves like at Bergen Bagels. I went back to Bergen today.

I went there on saturday. The bagels are definitely as good as bergen. Had my usual 2 eggs and ham on a toasted everything and was not disappointed. Also took a bite of my friends lox spread on a toasted whole wheat everything and was impressed as well. Attempted to go again on sunday but as the other poster pointed out the line was out the door. I would say in about a month after they get the kinks worked out I will never have to go to bergen again. Bergen is a great place mind you but it is a bit of a hike.
GO BAGELS!!!!
-
We tried them late this morning, 11:30ish. Line was long, place was packed, and staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, but the bagels were delicious and the inside of the place looks really nice. Prices comparable to Bergen Bagel. Great drink/snack selection too. Will definitely be back!
-
Yes, the bagels are excellent. They're substantially smaller than Bergen Bagels though, and not any cheaper, so if you're looking for a bagel that you can eat for breakfast _and_ lunch you probably want to go the extra few blocks.
They didn't get my order straight, in spite of writing it down. This happens at BB as well, but you can keep an eye on the guy while he's making your food, which is more difficult here.
They do have some bagel variants that are interesting. The "multi-grain" is delicious, sprinkled with whole grains. And some of their original sandwiches sound pretty damn good, too.
Will be back.

I think the bagels are terrific. My sentiments were echoed by the other 2 native new yorkers I was eating with. This will be my go-to place for bagels now.
-
Finally went this morning. So so delicious. They do salads with 5 toppings for a good price (I think $5 for a small?) and I had a delicious bagel with egg-salad. I am so excited for this place.
I wish they were a tad bit closer. Like in the first floor of my building.
Howdy, Stranger!
