New Spot opens in Bed-Stuy area is to die for!

Just wanted everyone to know about my new favorite spot in Bed-stuy. It is called "Sud" (pronounced "soood")

They have Italian food and wine from the south of Italy, and the best tiramissu i have ever had. This place is really nice...and now I don't have to go into the city to have a meal done right! Yay!!!

I am so excited, just want to share it with all of you... have you been yet?

  • Are you sure it's not pronounced "shil"?

  • I might check this place out, but not because an employee/owner came on our site and tried to shill for it.

  • ????? what is shil?

One is often suspected of being a shill when one's first post on a message board is a glowing review (or hype) of a new business.

Said shills then often disappear, because they have only one interest.

At a deeper level, the term "shill" can be contrasted with the term "member", which is one who often seeks to post about a random variety of things without any self serving profit motive.

All of which begs the questions:

Lisslo, do you understand why your first post may have made us wonder about your motivations?

Lisslo, do you understand that sometimes shilling does more harm than good for a business? ....especially when done under the guise of a "random neighbor" as opposed to honestly disclosing vested interests?

Lisslo, are you really sharing this out of "excitement", or with the hope of getting customers? ....everyone loves a new restaurant, but few of us love them enough to join a msg board proclaiming our excitement before it opens.

P.S. I'm glad Bed-Stuy is getting some Italian food, and hope the business does well.

  • Seriously lisslo...show some subtlety.

  • Thank you for the explanation...Although this is not the purpose of my post. I actually have become a fan of the place and asked them how i could help get the word out. I volunteered to take some of my time to help them out as they are a small neighborhood business. I am geniunely sharing this news with you, and if you stop by the place you are likely to see me and my family sitting their eating! It is a shame that your posts are so hostile! Have a wonderful day!

  • I'm not a shill.

I have been to Sud a few times and although I would not say that it is "to die for", I do think that it is good and I like it. The pastas are homemade and the ingredients are fresh. Expect to pay somewhere around $12 - $15 for an entree. The portion sizes are fair to me, but may seem small to some. We always purchase two appetizers to go with our entrees. While my husband and I never leave with leftovers, we always leave full.

The room is simply outfitted, plain but comfortable - no fancy bells or whistles. I am happy that I have another solid place to go that is nearby. It is a welcome addition to the area and my personal restaurant map.

    There you go Lisslo...

  • Thanks, maybe I should have said that the first time! See you There!

  • Thanks, nearnostrand, for an additional review. It's always nice to have another spot around. I had not heard of it before. When did it open?

  • It opened maybe 4 months ago. I don't remember exactly, but about that much.

  • i've been. it was tasty and reasonably priced. i recommend the gorganzola gnocchi, yum yum.

  • First Sud, Now Do-or-Dine! you should also check out a new spot, next to Sud, called "Do or Dine" These guys are rockin' it!
