Gunshots last night?

Yeah, they were actually on Union Street, right out in front of my apartment. Probably not the smartest move, but I went to the window as soon as I heard them. When I pulled the shades back, I saw to males running up the street. I immediately closed my shades and sat there, realizing that those were gun shots (it all happened so fast I hadn't really processed what I had just heard). Within a minute or so (it seemed like seconds), multiple squad cars showed up, coming from both directions, and sealed off the whole area. They grabbed the two guys (same 2?) and were out with flashlights, searching the ground, looking for shell casings I'd imagine. I went outside to see if I could gather what was going on. A lot of people came out of their apartments/homes due the shots being extremely loud and all the commotion that followed. Last I checked, it was about 10 til 2 and the cops were still outside, though many of the initial arrivals had left.
It was pretty scary and not really what I would expect in Park Slope.
This is my first post...i found this board while searching for this very topic to see if anyone else had more info. This is an unfortunate first post for me. -
welcome, Dude.
Yep, not what you expect to see in the Slope. Next time you hear gunshots, don't go to the window......DUCK! -

Thanks for the info, Dude. I was very surprised to hear gunshots in Park Slope myself, but they were very loud and unmistakable. Are you on Union bet 4th and 5th? Because I'm on President, and it sounded very close. It was pretty scary to hear, I have to say...
I'm new to this board too, actually, and only discovered it and posted because I was also looking for details too. I'm glad I found it, because it looks like a great source of info... But I agree, unfortunate first post for me too. -
President as well but I didnt hear poop.
then again, I sleep like a log. -
to make you rich park slopers feel nice
. maybe it came from gowanus canal area

Union and where?
Union, bt 4th and 5th Ave. -

Yes, indeed they were. The very first two I heard, I initially thought, or was thinking, it sounded like someone hitting a metal trashcan with a bat or something...it was that loud. But then, it registered that it was gun fire. And they were squeezing them off indiscriminately...definitely a semi-automatic. I think it was 7 shots, and it took only about 3 or 4 seconds for them all to go off. It was pretty frightening. -

Ha, that's funny.
I just walked by that place the other day on my way over to Smith street. We wondered what people must think when the book it, then show up there. It really is a weird spot for a hotel. Odd location choice for sure. -

It's actually an "amenity" allowing tourists to get the "real" Brooklyn experience. They won't hear any gunshots at the Brooklyn Marriot! -
Lovely! Sounds like this happened near R station on 4th Avenue. Looking forward to my next late night, uphill walk on Union Street.

you are right. i used to tell people to goto brownsville or east new york to get the real feel of brooklyn
. but this will do fine! -
Don't worry Dude - I also went straight to my window and nearly crapped myself when I saw the police in front of my building pointing guns at someone. It's instinct - you hear something, you go check it out.
My neighbors got dawn-raided by the police a couple of months ago and I was terrified then too - at first it sounded like it was my door being knocked in! All part of living in any major city as my friends tell me...
Despite all this I still feel perfectly safe living on this block. The people are generally friendly and living on my own I actually like the fact that there are always residents sitting on stoops etc (I know most people hate this). I find it scary walking along empty streets late at night, fancy neighborhood or not - drunk or otherwise! -
Yeah, I don't mind he block either...it's always been really nice and incident-free up until the other night. Well, except for when the manhole caught fire about a month ago and we were without AC for the night. Devastating!
But yeah, there's always people out and it feels like you could rarely walk that block and not be able to see a face you've seen a number of times.
Did you go outside? I did...the guys they were holding were being pretty belligerent, but I don't know why. It was a crazy scene for sure. -
I was too scared to go outside in case something kicked off again! I know they had the guy cuffed but his friends might have showed up or something. And I'm a wuss. Besides, it was literally in front of my building so I had a pretty good view from my window.
Howdy, Stranger!
