Who's been playing that damn song OVER and OVER?!? — Brooklynian

Who's been playing that damn song OVER and OVER?!?

Someone in the vicinity of Franklin & St. John's has been playing Elton John's "Sacrifice" OVER and OVER, and loudly, for the past 2-3 weeks, driving us friggin' bananas.

Please, for my sanity (and that of everyone else in the area), PLEASE, PLEASE stop this!

  • Elton John? Wow, how times change!

  • Who would do such a thing?

  • Jack-

I also miss the days of Tupac and Notorious BIG.

  • the thing to do is jack up your own song to blast it right back and get a directional speakers. or get noise cancelling speakers.

  • AW, lets blast Enya!

  • Elton John being blasted in the hood??? Wow Elton John fans in the hood.. PRICELESS. I blame Bloomberg for this phenomenon and everything else that is wrong with our city. 8O *laughs*

Let me know when someone starts hearing Busta Rhymes in Brooklyn Heights. 8O

  • By request for psycho-ologist

  • The only thing funnier than this thread would be if somebody complained about hearing me blast NPR constantly.

nr5597 - do you live on bedford between park and prospect, on the east side? if so, then... you blasting your NPR constantly is totally NOT funny.

someone in a building at that location blasts NPR from about 11 pm to about 8 am about 5 nights a week. its been going on for about 2 years... i live behind the building and can hear it from across the two yards. Ive done everything from filing numerous noise complaints with the city to standing outside the building to talk to fellow tenants (who also know there is a loser in their building disturbing everyone's sleep). yet it continues...

SO if this is you, you must stop. it's totally not funny, uncool and beyond disrespectful.

And, if it isnt you... then im sure that there are still neighbors that are bothered by your blasting talk radio. get a life and show some respect to those that have to get a good nights sleep so they can get up and go to work to pay the rent.

I believe your wish has been granted.

....bunch of riff-raff, those damn people who yell out the answers to Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.

  • Ummm what is NPR? The Elton John thing is hilarious though. I cannot imagine who would listen to Elton in this neck of the woods. Nice change of pace. Kudos to them. Oh yeah I do know that song. Maybe they are trying to prove the point that they sacrificed their sanity to live in this hellish hood.

  • National Public Radio.

  • You don't know what NPR is?

  • Heightsie, I believe we can eliminate at least one poster from our list of NPR suspects.

....but seriously, people are blasting Elton John and NPR in Crown Heights!?

I'm glad I pay extra to live in Prospect Heights to be away from that nonsense. Over here in the "better neighborhood", all I have to complain about is my neighbor who blasts gospel. It's like living next to the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir.

  • Heightsie, I don't live in that area. I guess "blast" was the wrong term to use...I had no idea this was actually an issue. At least you're well-informed? </silver lining>

The only thing occasionally blasted in my building is bachata, but it just inspired me to teach myself salsa dancing. NYC assimilation at its best?

  • So cry me a river. Nothing can compare to experience of my former neighbor getting drunk on a weekend & playing Chinese opera at a high volume! Awesome, the multi-culti richness that is Brooklyn!

  • Salix-

Did you learn how to dance to Chinese opera?

  • i have to call bs on chinese opera :p, even chinese people don't listen to it lol. its a dying art.

  • Whynot, PH ain't much better. Over the past few years, I have been hearing more Led Zeppelin, Doors and Beach Boys from passing cars. I wouldn't be surprised if CBS 101 broadcasts live from here one day.

  • Jack-

Why doesn't merely living in PH solve our problems?

Why won't all these people above me, below me, to my left and to my right, listen to exactly what I like, when I want to hear it, and at the right volume?

  • "Ummm what is NPR?"

It appears that the intellectual leanings of this latest crop of incoming gentry is different than I had expected and hoped for. Therefore, I have now deemed it a rule that any incoming gentrifying force must be reasonably well versed in NPR programming. (And FYI, Car Talk, though entertaining, doesn't count.)

Please, for the love of all things holy, at least listen to an episode or two of This American Life before living in my hood. Even my kids get podcasts of npr...What is Crown Heights coming to people? [-oB

  • Don't be dissin' the Car Talk!!

  • I just moved into Crown Heights after 8 years in Prospect Heights, and you should be relieved to know, nearnostrand, that I live up to your requirements of being an avid NPR listener. I recently got through the entire archive of This American Life, and now I'm just not sure how I'll ever clean the apt. again. Listen to the whole archive over again I suppose.

On Sunday, in the direction of St. Johns pl. someone was playing Cher's If I could turn back time, loudly, over and over again. After a few hours of that the person switched to Celine Dion. Forget Crown Heights, what is NYC coming to?

  • Luckily I couldn't hear the Cher under my piles of David Sedaris books and NPR environmentally-safe tote bags!

Im glad someone is blasting gospel music next to you whynot :)

  • It's just wrong. It's not like I annoy anyone by having making a lot of noise.

Doesn't everyone want a neighbor who is into wood working, and has a barking dog?

    LOL!!!

  • i don't listen the radio whats this stupid car talk thing about?

  • It's about car repair... but it's very creative and fun in the way it is presented.
