Adult bike riding lessons in Prospect Park?
Does anyone know of any adult bike riding lessons in Brooklyn? I thought last summer I read about someone offering them in Prospect Park but so far I can't find any info. I've been promising myself I'd learn to ride some day and I ain't getting any younger....
I know that Bike New York offers a few free lessons over the summer but every single class they have is already booked out.
Thanking you all in advance!

If I recall correctly, Mike Rodriguez and/or his wife offer lessons. He owns Bike Station on Park Avenue by Carlton.

I remember seeing this on Governor's island last summer and it was in a great, quiet spot with folks of all ages learning. I don't see that on the calendar for this summer, but I'm not sure if that would make the calendar. Not sure if this falls under the program you mentioned. If you could just get someone to help you, Governor's Island would be a way more fun place to learn, imo.
Good luck!

Thanks, yeah Governor's Island is what actually gave me the idea. I saw a Bike New York Class there last summer but by the time I thought of it again this year all those classes were full.
We have gone there and rented a bike and Poor Long Suffering Boyfriend attempted to run behind it and teach me. While I am sure we were an adorable site for everyone watching I think maybe this year I'll seek professional help. It might help the relationship last longer....

I don't mean to sound like a wise-ass but, are you wanting to learn how to ride a bike from scratch or what the proper form, how to pedal correctly, being able to pick a frame size and so on?
-
Yeah, trying to learn something like that from an SO sounds like a good way for you both to get frustrated.
You might have some luck if you call local bike shops. I would start with whichever one is closest to home. They might know who to contact or have an employee who can do this.
One little thing that helps, should you attempt to learn with a friend, is to use incline, not flat ground. If you have a slight slope down gravity can help you go forward so you can focus more on balance than on pedaling.

I thought this was going to be something about nude bicycling.

Not a bad idea. learn how to bike in the nude. Just carry corn starch for saddle sores. I hear Chile is quite the leader in this avenue.

Idlewild,
I am quite sure all the Park Slop Mommys would be all up in arms if I even attempted nude biking.
I am looking for the most basic beginner lessons. Growing up I had very old & inactive parents so there was no one around to teach me and I have grown up a complete nerd with no sense of balance so I don't expect learning will be easy.
OQ, When we attempted to teach me on Governors Island last year we stayed mainly on the lower hills. Having a slope did help but I still would freak out and put my foot down as soon as I started to veer to one side so I never really got very far.

Maybe the Park Slope Mommies need to do some nude stroller walking themselves. Such prudes they are.
I would speak with Mike at Bicycle Station regarding lessons. He and his wife are certainly sociable and ex-pro bikers. The wife (I forget her name) was giving cadence lesson the last time I saw her. And if they're not able to give you lessons I'm sure they can throw you a good referral.
