Filming around 171 St. Marks?

Indy film called "Leaving Circadia". I live next door and the locations crew was nice enough to leave a note making us aware of the filming and apologizing in advance for any disruptions it may cause.
I googled, but couldn't find mention of it anywhere.

A group of guys living in a Brooklyn brownstone, find their way through the harsh realities of life as they enter into 30's adulthood.

"Harsh realities of life"?
....Do they find out life isn't fair?
There's no way I'll go see that movie.

film crews are supposed to give neighbors 48 hours notice. we got 12 hours notice, followed by daily reminders of how much more important they all are than the rest of us. i wish them luck, but there is a keen irony in this particular crew making a movie about growing up.
-
Yes, especially as they block fire hydrants with their equipment, sit on our stairs, and ask us to walk AROUND the filming, even though they're set up right in front of our home.
Way to get the neighborhood to like you! The film sounds like a re-enactment of WhiteWhite.com

My wife asked the crew what they were filming and was told a "mayonnaise commercial". Guess they wanted to blow her off. Nice guys.
-
Yea, the filming is starting to get annoying. Especially when they set up giant lights right in front of my street facing windows and block the entrance to my apartment with their stuff. Last thing I want to deal with when I get home from work. I really hope it's over soon.

Hey guys
I work in production, just a few things to keep in mind
1. Sometimes the mayors office barely gives us 24 hours notice to approval to shoot in a neighborhood, so its physically impossible to get people out at 48 hours. . . Its rough for everyone.
2. I know its a pain in the ass with the lights and all, but this comes with living in a city known for filming. At least its only real busy during the summer...
3. Mayonnaise commercial is usually what PA's are told to tell people, particularly if their are celebs are attached to the shows as a preventative measure for crazy fans. Or, if thats not the case imagine those guys who you are asking the questions. Most PA's are college educated, paid $150-200 on a 16 hour day and to stand and do nothing for hours. When I was a PA there were times I'd be asked in upwards of 125 times what was being filmed... -
Hey ParkSloper24,
Thanks for your entitled attitude, it just confirms everything we've been complaining about on this thread. PAs sound like they have such a rough life (again, whitewhine.com)
Also, how about not packing up all the equipment after 10pm at night? Some people are trying to sleep and not only is the crew not quiet, they yell obscenities at each other. Guess what? Even if this is a city known for filming, it's still a NEIGHBORHOOD where people live and SLEEP - it's not some movie set you can just do whatever you want on. Also, how about not sitting/leaning on people's property unless you've received explicit permission from them? It looks like the crew has a rented brownstone already, so either bring your own chairs or sit at the rented brownstone - not our stoops. K, thx!
-
Wait.... Entitled attitude? I was just giving you some perspective on something you do not know the other side of. PA's do have it a bit rough, but its the whole idea so that you move on up the ladder. Equipment after 10? Yes if the shot calls for a sunset shot or dusk shot, yes the equipment will not be put away until it is done being used. Yes I know what a NEIGHBORHOOD is. I live in one, one where filming happens all the time. THe obscenities and entitlement of certain crew members differs from person to person and crew to crew. And I do not think its right but I'd much rather a crew member with a stable job sitting on my stoop then a homeless person. . They bring ALOT of money into the city and pay a hefty price to shoot in places that I'm sure you enjoy such as prospect park which help facilities/parks run much smoothly and cleaner. Deal with it or move to a neighborhood the Mayors Office for Film identifies as a HOTSPOT such as DUMBO, where filming is not allowed because of overshooting. I'm sure you'll be kvetching on that forum about the tourists minutes after moving there. You live in a city. Deal with it.
-
No, the solution is not to "deal with it." The solution is to file a complaint with the Mayor's Office for Film etc. explaining the extent to which the crew is not abiding by the guidelines imposed on it by the permitting process. Blocking sidewalks, rude behavior, excessive noise, double-parking, etc.
Parksloper, I appreciate what you're saying but this is not a shoot that deserves your defense. This is a crew composed of some very unprofessional and juvenile people, now on their third week of taking advantage of a situation with an absentee landlord who shows zero consideration for the neighbors.
-
Thanks thelambchop, agreed - I'll have to file a complaint. Is the filming over yet?
I didn't want to get into a flame war with parksloper24, so that's why I held off on initial response. Suffice it to say:
1. I don't feel bad for college-educated kids who have to start their careers working as PAs for more than minimum wage because they're at least working their way up and that's what they chose. There are plenty of people who would jump for the chance of working $10+/hour and paid to "stand and do nothing for hours." Am I supposed to feel bad for them?
2. Having either a "homeless person" or "crew member with a stable job" is not a forced decision like ParkSloper24 would like you to believe. How about a third option of having NO ONE sit on the stoop and respect other's property? Lame argument doesn't hold up.
3. If you aren't in the neighborhood and witnessed how the production is acting, it's a bit out of place to rush to their defense and that's why I felt you had an entitled attitude.
And I'm done.
Howdy, Stranger!
