Vindication on an in person police complaint against noise/drinking/loitering

the psycho-ologist
edited November -1 in Park Slope

Every summer I spend consecutive weekends exiled from my apartment for hours due to some of the neighborhood "inconsiderates" blasting loud music etc. Tonight was especially bad, since they had invited others for what appeared to be an illegal BBQ, complete with a card table, liquor, car stereo's blasting, and a grill right there on the sidewalk. All of this at 12 FUCKING MIDNIGHT. I went IN PERSON to the precinct and complained. By the time I did the 10 block walk home, I saw a patrol car parked, and fines being issues. YAY! vindication.

I am listening to the sounds of the "party" being broken up as we speak. HA HA.

  • Congrats.

If the situation recurs, I would convince someone other than yourself to file out the next complaint.

One concerned person is rarely able to keep the police diligent. Show them you are many people

  • also make sure they don't know its your doing the complaining. some folks are vengeful.

  • Hip Hip Hooray! This is a constant problem for me as well. Just last night my inconsiderate neighbor invited over some of his scallywags and proceeded to bbq right where my bedroom window is. To make matters worse, they bbq their food using hickery wood chips. My house was full of smoke and I had to shut my windows. Even this morning, all my clothes smell like hickery!!!

I never seem to have any luck with the police. I always seem to get the same obsese cop who tells me to call 311.

  • I HATE ILLEGAL BBQ's! What I do to combat them is to dump 2 gallons of bleach in the immediate area where they like o BBQ. It works wonders because when they try to set up they try to toughen up to the smell of chlorine but after a few minutes they always retreat. What is even funnier is watching these neanderthals trying to wash the sidewalk with little or no progress. Yes, the chlorine/bl;each trick works 100% and I recommend all of you to try it.

Oh this is EXACTLY WHAT I AM doing from now on. I am going to pretend that it is mop water, and I am going to have ammonia and bleach in the water and dump two buckets full every evening right before they set up.

    YAY for you!

I am going to buy a whole bunch of stamped envelopes, and have form letters inside addressed to the 72dn precinct and our council district. I am going to put the letters in the mailboxes of all my neighbors with a line for their signature, and a line to put their name and address, as well as an instructions on what to do to file a complaint. and . All they have to do is give the pre-stamped letter to the postman. I am hoping that enough people will just sign and give it to the post man, and create a critical mass buzz at the precinct and district council.

I am going to do it this way, because some of the offenders live in my building and I don't want them to know I am behind this.

I know. I am trying to be as anonymous as possible.

  • I am going to have ammonia and bleach in the water

um, this is a bad idea, in part because these two chemicals react to form a poisonous gas.....you may make yourself sick.

You also live very close by. One would not need to be a genius to figure out its origin, and then conclude you may also be behind the police visit and letter writing campaign.

Have thoughtful strategies... take your time.

    Pick your battles.

  • idle people who party till wee hours of the morning don't generally have jobs, they have time to get creative and would do nasty stuff.

  • when the cop joked about someone going to the precinct I didn't believe her. Nobody got a ticket or anything they just ask us to bring it in.You know the music was off and so was the qrill. You failed to tell that it was a block party and it wasn't that late.I have lived on 23rd street for 10 years it used to be family block. Everyone came outside bb, party. dance watched out for each other we had great times. This person doesn't live in my building and you just moved to this block. If you have a problem come and

talk .you are not the only ones who live on this block. I live in 318 my name is Jose my and my family have done a lot of community work with the 72 nd precinct. So just stop being so mean & judgmental and live your life.We are neighbors not enemies

  • people on my block are just mean .the psych-ologist your just sad.... Love always conquers hate

  • all I am going to say to your gorilla tactics is that two wrongs don't make it right.

    bad karma.

and I will add, some of you people, not all, are just plain stupid. as long as there are stupid people, things will not change for better.

    have a nice day

Well, Mr. Neighbor: How about someone pay me for the 90+ dollars worth of damage my window garden got, when the people who hang out in front of my building, started throwing garbage, beer, and cigarette butts into the stairwell, by my garden, missing and instead getting their trash/beer in my soil and killing my plants? Oh is that my welcome since I am so "NEW"? Is this why there are no window gardens on this block because there is some unwritten rule that the street people, must be able to damage the property of others? Did I miss that memo as a new neighbor?

How about being NEIGHBORLY and not standing outside of my window every night INCLUDING WEEKDAYS and laughing and cackling and drinking beer until the wee hours of the night EVERY _ OTHER _NIGHT.

Oh I am sorry, I just got here, and as a working person I must respect the "good times" of others who supposedly love me and aren't judgmental, who just happen to enjoy DENYING ME SLEEP ALMOST EVERY OTHER NIGHT.

    Yeah neighbor,

You wanna talk if you are part of the shenanigans? Show me the money, and the actions. They speak louder than words. Be R-E-S-P-E-C-T-F-U-L of your neighbors.

I'm laughing, because by logic, that couldn't possibly have been a block party and NO the entire block doesn't support you:

    1) block parties with amplification (loud stereos) happen during the day (NOT AFTER 10 pm see noise ordinance link page 7), cannot have alcohol (see Street Activities/ block party regs link scroll to # 17 FAQ). Never mind the fact that the whole block is required to be cordoned off.

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/cecm/html/faq/faq.shtml

    http://home2.nyc.gov/html/dep/pdf/noise_code_guide.pdf

    2) Why is it that on a block with several large buildings, and several brownstones that its always THE SAME 10 or 12 people doing all the partying? 12 people does not a block or even a community make.

DO you really believe all the other people living in these collective buildings enjoy your so called "good times" or am I just the only one will the balls to speak up about it?

  • Psycho, you old stick in the mud. You are attempting to destroy the vibrancy of our neighborhood.

    Vibrancy destoyer.

  • someone's vibrancy is another persons nuisance.

  • Sheesh, you'll come out against vibrant graffiti next.

  • I always thought "coming out" meant something completely different.

  • someones vibrant graffiti is landlords urban blight, that he has to pay to repaint over and over again, and hopes to beat the snot out of those artist :p.

  • Might I recommend you Live and Let live! It is a simple enough notion.
