NEIGHBORHOOD NIGHT WATCH: ARE WE DOING IT?
I guess I have to repost this since our wonderful moderator seems to feel that its more important for him/her to control someone's free speech by deleting posts and locking threads, rather than hopping aboard and trying to make the park slope community a better place to live. Ohh how I can only wish to feel the power you have someday.
Anyhow Vinceonthebay, you have brought up some valid points and I do agree with your general viewpoints. I am wondering if we could organize a neighborhood watch brigade. Our local authorities dont seem to be doing much and I agree it's time for us to take a stand and rid our streets of the local roughians who strive to destroy our way of life. Hopefully we can recruit enough people to have a positive effect. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Berman.

Berman, i messaged Vince and he states he posted a thread asking for volunteers but that the moderator here erased it. I just do not understand why he is standing in the way of progress. Vince has already gathered 7 volunteers and is hoping to gather more support. Being that the moderator is intent on watching Rome burn it is safe to say we will not get any help from this forum. From my understanding Vince is holding a meeting next Sunday at P.S 321 in regards to the Night watch group and its development. Reach out to him for more details.

Some stolen bicycle seats does not equal the fall of Rome.
-
Danny, you are correct.
Not only did they not have bicycles back then, but the Fall of Rome was a pretty complex thing.
There are adherents to single factors, but more people think Rome fell because of a combination of such factors as Christianity, decadence, and military problems. Even the rise of Islam is proposed as the reason for Rome's fall, by some who think the Fall of Rome happened at Constantinople in the 15th Century. Here I am writing about a roughly fifth century fall of Rome (or the western division of the Roman Empire).

By the way, here's some info about when bicycles were invented:
Vehicles for human transport that have two wheels and require balancing by the rider date back to the early 19th century. The first means of transport making use of two wheels, and thus the archetype of the bicycle, was the German draisine dating back to 1817. The term bicycle was coined in France in the 1860s.

You people need to be less flaccid and more proactive. At least Vince is trying to defend something he spent a life building. Some of you are intent on just peeping out your windows and gossiping about your neighbors and making snide remarks about ancient bicycles. Grow up already! If your testicles do ever manage to drop during the course of this summer then please by all means join the movement that will make our community a better and safer place. Vince seems like a doer....What can you say about yourselves?

Curtis Sliwa admitted that he had fabricated several of the Angels' exploits, including a false allegation that he had been kidnapped in 1980 by off-duty transit officers. As well as admitting to "faking several kidnapping attempts on himself to make himself seem more valuable to the public" he said in later statements.

Perhaps Vince should reach out to Mr. Sliwa for some advice. Mr. Sliwa has many years of positive experience in matters of involving Tenant Patrols. He presence at a meeting would only help to encourage volunteers. I shall advise Vince to send him an email if possible.

Bill Murray,
You have a good point. -

lol ToxicLatte mention park slope isn't safe and people should move to lower manhattan lol, umm it not a magic place that criminals don't go to. in a economic down turn most places get criminals to to rob or steal from you.
normally it effects poor areas worse than rich areas. alot of people shit where they live, easier to get home to. lower manhatan is no different than other nabes with the same economic bracket.
only reason some folks notice things happening in park slope and prospect heights more so is per sq mile there is more bloggers and writers in this area than rest of nyc combined.

Wake up already and take your head out of the sand......The integrity of our neighborhood is collapsing and it is time to do something. Armchair, consider yourself unwelcomed.
Once more thank you to all those who show an interest in taking back our streets. Please try to ignore the nay sayers if possible for they are used to living a life of subjugation.
As stated before we are holding a meeting at P.S 321 on this coming Sunday. All those who messaged me are getting details to the event. I am currently working on a flyer to distribute as well. Hopefully this Tenant Patrol takes off.Once more..Thank You and God bless.

no need to "wake up". dramatizing doesn't really work. crime is about the same as it is for other neighbourhoods with the same income levels as park slope. as i state only reason people notice here more is park slope and prospect heights has way too many bloggers and writers per square mile/block than any other place in nyc for some reason.

You keep telling yourself that there is no boogey man...I am sure that it works for you but it does not work for me. Look around on the threads and you will see how many crimes have been documented. According to you nothing has changed in Park Slope and you are just peachy with the current way of things are. I will not stand around and await the next mugging or property theft. Perhaps you are happy bragging that your were mugged for the 30th time and use that as a badge of honor but I am not cut from the same cloth as you. I refuse to be a victim anymore. You sir sadden me and that is why I don't want you involved in anything regarding the Tenant Patrol. You have a defeatist quality about yourself that I do not want festering among my friends. Do what you do best and hide in your apartment hoping that things will eventually get better. Maybe you should take a walk in Harlem and add to your tally of muggings. I am sure that looks great on your resume.

Can I come to the meeting to point and laugh if you talk the same way IRL?
-
lol you two
. how bout someone bring a web cam and stream it live here. too lazy to attend anything.
-
back in the day, if there were muggers in the area and such me and friends would bring out the bats and go for a walk, no cops were called etc... they didn't come back. but this was back before the 90's Disneyfication of nyc
.but the times have changed. you'll end up in jail etc...
if you guys really want to do something model yourselves after these guys. pretty effective.
-
I don't see anything on the PS 321 website about this?
-
i stil think they're all the same posters
. -
i think i got all the law enforcement credentials.
fat check
likes fatty foods check
lazy check
douchey almost there -

Most cops are hard working.I made the reference to Chief Wiggum because even he is able to solve some crimes better than many Sliwa-wanna-bes.
Shomrim, on the other hand, does seem to provide a public benefit. ...but I suspect that Vincentinthebay and toxiclatte would not be welcome.
-
off course they are
, but stereo types are fun. there are just minority of folks ruining for the rest. also having a pba card is great
. -
Until this thread, I never knew bicycles weren't invented until 1817.
What did the people who lived along Prospect Park West complain about before then?
-
generally well to do with nothing better to do. it always the richer folks in the hood complaining about the other folks who are mostly probably renters
. most of my tenants own bikes. -
So many posts, glad to see brooklynian has some life left in it. Going back to the original issue, my guess is the seats were taken by someone who doesn't care for the aesthetics of bicycles parked overnight on his/her block.
-
Seriously? Who would care about that? Do they feel it's equivalent to a rusted-out car or refrigerator in the front yard of a double-wide trailer? The Park Slope HIllbillies?
Various folks on my block keep bikes or strollers chained outside of their houses all the time.
I think they're risking theft, but I never imagined anyone would steal (or vandalize) for purely aesthetic reasons.

Booklaw-
There is a part of me that has always wanted to see a fake Pink Flamingo, fake deer or a Fake Wishing Well on third street. Park Slope would like the south, and it would be awesome.
