    lol you two :p.

how bout someone bring a web cam and stream it live here. too lazy to attend anything.

I will donate $5 to make that happen

  • Pink flamingos are awesome... but only when they're real.

  • Yes, but I am sorry to inform you that I think the chance of you seeing a real pink flamingo in Park Slope is low.

Bears, however, are awesome regardless of whether they are real or fake. For example, look at this one made by a talented chainsaw craftsman

Places with real or fake bears are awesome

  • I know I should just ignore it but I have to say - I have lived in PS for 35 years and yes, there is crime - just like there is crime everywhere else - no better or worse than it was when I first moved here (well, maybe better). And the last thing I want to see is a bunch of vigilantes taking the law into their own hands

  • Well put, Peanuts.

  • yeah vigilantes aren't needed for now, but shomrim would ease the minds of some.

  • Shomrim operates in a neighborhood far more violent than Park Slope, and (despite attempts to work closely with police) is frequently accused of being vigilantes.

At times, these accusations come from within the Lubavitch community.

The blog Crownheights.info serves the Lubavitch population of Crown Heights and crime is a major part of its coverage. Here's a link to the crime section

Before I took part, the organizers of a Neighborhood Watch would have convince me:

    A. They would run the program in an intelligent, thoughtful, manner based on existing best-practice methods.

    B. The problem could not be contained via the police alone.

    C. My time would be better spend with them than watching Jeopardy.

    D. A proactive approach of preventing crime and alerting the police was not sufficient.

...so far, I have not read any evidence of A, B, C or D.

  • how bout the midwood or borough park. not familiar with crown heights one.

  • I believe they go thru same struggles.

...hence my desire to have professionals handle crime.

    Booklaw-

There is a part of me that has always wanted to see a fake Pink Flamingo, fake deer or a Fake Wishing Well on third street. Park Slope would like the south, and it would be awesome.

Are gnomes behind bars Ok. Meet Ebenezer:

  • Of course that was a picture back in the days, when I was in the midst of fighting for my window garden's life. My plants were already being damaged by my neighbors. I paid 25$ for Ebenezer at Target, part of his cone hat was chipped off by my "neighbors", so now he lives inside my apartment. :-(

  • I can't believe Chief Wiggum has made an appearance in this thread! Every time I read a post by vinceinthebay, I hear it in my mind in Fat Tony's voice.

  • A personal thank you to Mike, Martha, Gerald and Thomas. Welcome aboard and do not forget to attend the meeting on Sunday. The numbers are growing and the usual obtuse individuals are left here to vent in anger. I have only been a member of the Park Slope community for only 1.5 years and I have done what they could not do in 20+ years. They are as useless as ovaries on a bronze statue. No wonder they are so envious. I pity anyone whose only contribution to society or their immediate community is Sour Karma. Instead of asking me to leave this neighborhood perhaps they should look inward and ask themselves if they deserve to live in our neighborhood.

Like it or not this Tenant Patrol is going to happen and it will function devoid of any N.Y.P.D presence and above all it will be modeled to reflect the makeup of the community. This tenant Patrol will not be modeled like those inbred fools in Crown Heights. Yes I said inbred because last summer I had my own run in with them as I bicycled down Ocean Parkway. Another story for another time.

  • Oh, good. Somebody brought up bikes.

Just not the minds of women. Who should cross the street and get out of the way of any men.

  • I'm guessing that some of these recent posts are just Gawker trying to generate some material.

Yes, because Park Slope was an undesirable backwater before you came along!

Really? Is there that high of a maroon:normal person ratio in PS?

Ah - adding the smell of bigotry to the NYC summertime bouquet of garbage, urine and hobostank!

It is wonderful that he has a loving mother figure.

  • I went on PS 321's website and didn't see anything about this vigilante group...so I called PS 321 - they don't know anything about this.

Anyone else dying to know what he means about the patrol representing the make-up of the community. No? Me neither :-)

  • Peanuts, we believe you.

...but we now have yet another thread that celebrates freetime and/or refusal to do actual work at work.

I love it when these happen.

  • Free time is no excuse for this. I have tons of free time, but you don't see me starting such troll-ish threads. The mere idea of Park Slope being a mecca for thieves and criminals....

  • This tenant Patrol will not be modeled like those inbred fools in Crown Heights. Yes I said inbred because last summer I had my own run in with them as I bicycled down Ocean Parkway. Another story for another time.

FYI, since you've only been here for a year and a half, Ocean Parkway is no where near Crown Heights. And the Lubavichers will kick your ass if you start to confuse them with Satmar.

lol i thought maybe he meant eastern parkway :p since the two stretches of road way look about the same :p. And i don't think he is aren't familiar with brooklyn.

  • Tateinbk-

True, but we are not celebrating the OP and Sliwa.

I, for one, was celebrating chainsaw bears. Another was celebrating her dwarf.

Do you wish to celebrate Park Slope? It is a very nice community.

  • I'm in it for the comradery and +1.

  • Again, there is nothing on PS 321's website, nor does anyone there know anything about it. Plus, very odd that PS 321 would hold something like this, especially on a Sunday. So, Vince, could you please enlighten us all? I'm a bit confused about where this meeting is taking place.

  • Whynot, I would pay good money to see bears all over any part of this city. And Pink flamingos on any yard or stuck in any window box would quite make my day. Celebrate Park Slope, sure, why not. I've never lived there, but I did live close by for a while. Frankly, it seems lovely.

I think the fabulous grocery store options when living near Vanderbilt/Flatbush along there is something worth celebrating. I did have these two guys out when I had a small front yard area. The frog got a little damaged because it cost a dollar from Target, and was clearly cheaply made.

They have now moved inside with all my plants. With my north-facing windows I may be the only person in this city getting a grow light to keep actual herbs (basil, parley, rosemary) alive.

  • how small does a file need to be?

  • ^^^I prefer the img tags with a 3rd party host like flickr, picasa, whateve. Then it can be big. And pretty.
