Franklin Ave Kids Day should receive your money
Every year, the owners of About Time (Kevin and Garnet) get a block party permit to close Franklin Avenue and host a Kids Day.
The day features rides, cotton candy, inflatable bouncy houses etc.
Pictures of last year's event can be viewed here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/About-Time-Boutique-CHCA-Kids-Day-Event/198149366889029?sk=photos
I've been told the event cost about $5000 to run, and the funds are raised from community merchants as well as community members.
As a friend of Garnet's, I hereby endorse Kids Day as cause worthy of your hard earned dollars.
I've been impressed with this board's generosity in the past., and encourage you to stop by About Time to drop off some of your hard earned $ for a good cause.
736 Franklin Ave
Note: Money donated prior to event is most appreciated as it gives them an idea of how much they can spend on cotton candy, bouncy houses etc.

Excellent post -- I worked the cotton candy machine last year and it was a blast. I encourage people to talk to Garnet and volunteer as well -- it was a great time and the smiles on the kids' faces are worth it for sure
-
I almost forgot:
The 4thAnnual Franklin
Kids Day
will occur
Saturday, July 23rd
from 10am-6pm.
-
I heard these are money making schemes. The $5000 initially raised should be enough but greedy individuals do not stop there and then line their pockets with the difference. Any extra profit should be poured back into the community. I am staying away from any event that is geared at making money for a select few.
Just my 2 cents.
-
You have facts to back this up I'm assuming? Because I certainly don't believe this at all about Kevin, Garnett, or the other people making this event happen.
And I'm really confused by the "The $5000 initially raised should be enough" -- What does that even mean? That 5k doesn't just show up - it's raised through exactly how Whynot is encouraging.
Don't badmouth people in the community doing great things unless you can back it up.
-
xlizellx-
I'm sure we can count on lillith to volunteer if he is worried about his funds being misused. For example, he could entertain the children as they wait to use the Bouncy House, rented with the funds of other people.

-
Thank you all for the support! Lets make the kids happy again this year yeah! I'm sorry some feel different. Visit the crow hill community associations accountant for details on funds raised. These events are pricey and help is needed. Thanks for the support again. Heads up we raised almost 1,000 thus far. 4,000 to go!!! xlizellx you rocked last year!!!
-
And who is in charge of the money raised? And you expect me to trust the above named people especially when I dont know them from a hole in the wall. I DONT THINK SO!
This scam was run at the event two blocks down from my home 2 summers ago. They always want to raise money for sometyhing but when it comes down to it where does the money go? IN THEIR GREEDY DLITTLE POCKETS!
Like I said, I do won't recommend any of these events. If you feel the need to donate money then give directly to the charity and not through some event hosted by the self anointed mayor of some Brooklyn block.
-
Lillith-
I think your posts on this thread may achieve the exact opposite of your goal.In other words, I think your advice telling people to not volunteer or give money to people they don't know, will cause people to volunteer and give money to Kids Day because they do know and trust the people and organizations involved.
So, keep posting on this thread. It will keep this topic active, and make people decide who they should believe:
Garnett, Xlizellx, CHCA, the CHCA accountant,
About Time, The Candy Store,
people's experience of the events that
have been thrown for the last 3 summers, and
links to the pictures of past events.OR
You.

Anyone with a semblance of a college education will see throught your ridiculous attempt at reverse psychology. I really do hope people are smart enough to see through the mind games your are attempting to play. Scammers will do anything to line their pockets in this type of economy.
-
I hope to see you on July 23rd.
In past years, there has been a dunk tank at the event. Perhaps you will pay money to dunk me. We will use the money to help us rent the dunk tank and bouncy house. It will be great.

I DONT THINK SO!Rather than encouraging others not to support a community event, why don't you take a walk over to Franklin Avenue, stop in some of these stores, meet the people you are disparaging and make up your mind about THIS EVENT based on your impression of the people actually involved in it?

Sorry, I just don't think its a great policy to encourage folks not to support community activities you have no personal involvement with or knowledge of based upon your assertions about some shenanigans that occurred two summers ago, two blocks away from where you lived at the time.
-
Homeowner, you are ignoring my point. Most of these events are over all scams to generate money for an individual or a group. The money does not come from the donations but from the side street vending that they do all in the name of a charity or a supposed cause. I have seen this scam run time and time again. The group charges people to rent tables/space at these events/functions and then asks the renters for a % via kick backs of the profits made. The kick backs are not dumped back into the community but instead into the pocket of the scammers. So you see what my gripe is? Anyone that comes on a forum to try to advertise some street event is only doing so for his/her greater good and not the community.
There is nothing different about this event and its organizers.
I am not advocating a boycott. If you want to go by all means do so but at least know when you are being treated as sheep.
-
Lillith-
It is clear you have not attended this event.--There are no street vendors renting tables or space.
--There is no cause other than the day itself.
--Many people on the Crown Heights forum know the posters on this thread and the organizers of this event. Although we may be considered strange, we are not strangers. We have been active in the community for years, and have no plans of going anywhere. That is why we are mostly appealing to them to volunteer and donate their cash, not persons who are not familiar with the us or the event.
--The amount of money spent vs the amount money raised is available for all to see. Dude, bouncy houses aren't cheap.
So, please, keep posting.
Your posts continue to differentiate this event from other events, and continue to keep this thread at the top of the list.
Based on the success of past years, we've already been able to get a CPA to volunteer, reputable non-profit to sign on, and a street closure permit.
-
Psychology 101 covers the method of your banter. Waste not want not. You are clearly wasting words at this point. The fact that one is seeking donations on this forum makes this event even more suspect in my book.
Once more I am not advocating a boycott of this event. What I am advocating is education. Please know who you are dealing with and donating to. Just because someone writes on a forum that the following people are honest and forthright does not necessarily mean that it is so. The fact that I am attacked so vehemently speaks volumes for the true intentions of the organizers of this event.
There are too many con artists in this city and there are a million and one ways to rip off a person. Like I said, If you really want to donate money please make sure the charity is reputable. Do not be led by hearsay on a forum obviously set up to lure in the sheep to this event.
The title of the thread says it all.
"Franklin Ave Kids Day should receive your money"

Thank you for repeating my mantra, and encouraging people to drop by the good folks at About Time, located at 736 Franklin Ave, to:
a. Ask Kevin and Garnet questions about the event and its financing
b. Sign up for volunteer spots and, (wait for it....)
c. Donate their hard earned cash to a worthy cause.
-
You are clearly wasting words at this point.
The irony is rich.
The fact that I am attacked so vehemently
You actually haven't been attacked, at all. Not even once. Disagreeing is not attacking.
-
Mr. Boy, you have not been privy to the other threads where upon the malcontent, WhyNot, has followed me in order to continue his gregarious form of harassment. He has been warned several times but he continues to stalk and harass me on every thread. He obviously has nothing better to do than to bother women in general.
-
Boygabriel-
While it may be clear to you that lillith has not been attacked on this thread or any other, and is trying to claim victim status, I am ok with this.If lillith continues to imagine me as an attacker, lillith may be willing to shell out some hard earned cash to dunk me in the dunking booth.
Although no one has yet to believe that lillith is a victim, if they were to do so, they might be willing to shell out their $ as well.
Lillith-
Do you have a good arm?Readers at large-
You read it here. I will volunteer to be in the dunking booth if we raise enough funds to rent one. -

Otherwise I've read every post you've been in, and you're not being attacked, at all.
Again, disagreeing with you is neither harassment nor attacking.

Boygabriel-
Such threads only appear to lillith, not to me. -

Well, then, I've interviewed all witnesses to such threads and it's not looking good for you.

Oh really, you have not been harassing me?
I only need EXHIBIT "A" to prove you a complete and utter LIAR!
Click my icon and read my limited posts and you will see one constant...I am always telling a certain individual to leave me alone.
Hold on let me show you a sample before he erases most of his incriminating postings. Below is a reply to one of his malicious postings that suddenly seems to be gone. Hm, I wonder. Thank god he can not erase my replies. They look mighty odd without the missing postings of "WhyNot" but then again why would I post such posts unless I was engaged in a verbal match with my harasser.
Just as I thought...CAN'T BACK UP HIS WORDS OR ALLEGATIONS!
YOU SIR ARE FULL OF BUNK AND YOU LIKE TO HARASS WOMEN!
Do me a favor, LEAVE ME ALONE! If you do not like what I post then ignore it. Also stop disrespecting my deceased cat. You do not see me talking about you lopsided crippled dog depicted on your icon, do you? Many apologies to the dog if I offended it.
JUST LEAVE ME BE!
P.S (Directed to the admin) He admits to conducting pranks in the past so why not look into him as perpetrating this prank. Perhaps I am a pawn in his over all plan after all. Phooey on me!The poster "WhyNot" has been harassing me ever since I joined this forum and if you are holding him up as the mouth piece of this event then I can not endorse or recommend such an event for anyone to attend. He is an urban/cyber thug intent on harassing women. With this obtuse individual at the helm this event has "SCAM" written all over it.
-
If we put our minds to it, I'm sure we can make the angry lillith a major asset.
This is on tract to be the best Franklin Ave Kids Day yet.
I can't wait to see how good lillith's arm is!
Hey, if lillith's arm is lousy, we may be able to rent the whole dunk dank from just lillith's wallet.
-
Mr. Boy, if you have reached such a conclusion after reviewing the prior evidence via the other postings then you sir are part of the problem as well.
I see that lunatics do travel in pairs.
What is Ironic is that no one has bothered to explain why $5000 dollars is needed.
-
The term "Pairs" falsely implies that there are only two people on this board that believe Franklin Ave Kids Day Should Receive Your Money.

I missed the evidence of him harassing you.
I went through and read every thread you've posted on so far.
I can't find them.

yes, heaven knows everyone is waiting with baited breath for your approval of this event.

I am beginning to think just the desire to be seen as "unlike lillith" may cause some people to donate their time and money.
...but I still hold out hope that lillith can be reasoned with, and wants to provide a fun day for neighborhood kids.
I haven't given up on lillith. I still have hope.
-
is there paypal or anything? or must I move my lazy legs?
-
BG-
I think you should put in a call to About Time, and post what you learn. If you learn that Garnet has not set up a Paypal Account, I suppose I could volunteer my paypal account.
Then, post a thank you note on this thread stating the amount of each donation, and who it was received from.
And finally, give CHCA the total amount in cash and post a PDF of the CHCA receipt here.
-
Still no answer as to why $5000 is needed. I am sure those of limited minds will say "Oh we need it for the inflatable castle" or "the dunk-a-human" events. Valiant excuses for $5000 dollars but then again the donations are being asked for and I am sure that no one will be informed when the $5000 is actually reached. One can only surmise what happens to the substantial excess. I hear the stretching fabric of money bags being filled via Paypal accounts. They are awaiting the dollar bills of the coming sheep.
Think about it...If they keep saying we still need more donations to reach the fictitious 5K then who is to say that they actually raise 15K instead. DO YOU SEE MY POINT NOW!
To make matters worse you have this harasser of women at the helm of this event. Things do not bode well for such an event where upon people are being told "YOU SHOULD GIVE" instead of try to give...LOL!
Something smells of a "SCAM".
Howdy, Stranger!
