Franklin Ave Kids Day should receive your money

Lillith-
You are correct, we would be absolutely delighted if we were to raise more than $5000. However, we do not feel that goal is reasonable, and we have not needed more than $5k for prior years.Garnett saves the receipts from past years, and you could look at them if you wanted. They add up to about (...wait for it....) $5k.
If we do raise more than $5k, it will all be spent on Kids Day.
If we raise less than $5K, it will be spent on Kids Day.
Our business model is straight forward:
We spend what we raise, plus whatever
funds we are willing to
donate from our pockets.$15k would be an awesome Franklin Avenue Kids Day!
However, I would be delighted if we "only" reached our ambitious goal 5k.
Garnett reports we have already raised $1k so far.
Based on the friends she has in the community, and the friends I have in the community, and the friends of everyone else who has witnessed this day for the passed 3 years, I think we have a very good chance of reaching our goal.
We have about a month to go!
P.S. Remember, you can always volunteer if you are running short on cash.
It is good to have people in life that I know well enough to trust with my hard earned cash.

I, for one, do not believe you but surely you do not expect the rest of the residents of Brooklyn to fall for this ridiculous explanation. Yeah, like I said I have seen this scam perpetrated before. It is the same M.O helmed by different people on a different block. In this case a known harasser of women and his equally suspect cohorts are leading the sheep to slaughter.
I need not repeat that I will not be in attendance but I sure as hell hope people read this thread so they can make up their own minds. The Trojan horse aspect of your approach is commendable. Hiding behind the cause of the children in order to line your pockets is not a new idea but then again this is the 4th incarnation of this event and I have no doubt that it has been quite profitable for the organizers.
(wink, wink) -
Your attendance will be sorely missed, and I hope they have dunk dank even if you will not be among the throwers.
However, I think enough people know and trust the folks working on this event that it will reach its goals.
The kids look forward to this event every year.

Lilith, what you keep seeming to gloss over is that many of us here, myself included, have met whynot in person. Numerous times. He's a nice, affable guy. And his dog is awesome too. Not only that, I live around the corner from About Time. I've met the owners, am aware that they devote a lot of time and effort to community events like Franklin Ave Kids Day and, furthermore, my kids thoroughly enjoy going every year.
You, or more to the point, your words on the screen, are coming across as paranoid and bating. Just because you've decided that whynot is "after you" (despite all evidence to the contrary... when exactly did he disparage your dead cat?) and you've perhaps experienced some firsthand knowldege that some lesser sort of individuals use things like street fairs to bilk people of money, you swoop right into this thread to berate the people who volunteer to organize this event and swear up and down that it is a scam. How do you know? Do you have firsthand knowledge of anyone involved? And you ask why they need $5,000? Well, have you looked into how much all this equipemnt and permitting costs? In previous years, it wasn't simply a single bouncy castle and a dunking booth, its also mechanical rides. That costs money.
But by all means, please continue to talk specificaly about this event being a scam. Clearly, having never been to this particular event in the past, nor met any of the good folks involved, you know more about it than the people that have.
Oh well, at least your inane prattle is entertaining!

You affiliation to the twisted "Whynot" has put a smudge on your reputation. Funny how his closest friends now say they find nothing wrong in his harassment of women.

You are kidding me, right? You give a new to the term "SEE NO EVIL"

You prove my point...THANK YOU! You ask me if I know anything about this function/event and I say no. I counter your question with "How do we know if it is not a scam...and your answer is?"...We are good people that know each other....That answer and an additional $2.25 gets me on the subway...LOL! The very people behind the function/event can not provide character testimonials for the rest. END OF STORY! It will only serve to perpetuate the scam.

Your lack of a college education really puzzles me. You and your fellow cohorts continue the reverse psychology angle as if it will deter me from commenting on the secret financial schemes of those engaged in block party/events. As I stated before these tactics are discussed in Psychology 101 and any further banter along these lines will prove to be futile when it comes to educated people.
It boggles the mind how discussing the possible scam qualities of this event has basically rattled the hornets nest. Now they come out in droves to discredit me. Yet more tactics from those who swear their event is on the level. Kinda makes you go ...Hmmmmmmmm,
P.S ...STILL NO ANSWER AS TO WHAT THE $5000 IS REALLY NEEDED FOR! And the scam further unravels.
-
Lillith-
Thanks.Whenever I think of unravel, I will now think of you.

You are welcome.

We now return to the Franklin Avenue Kids Day.
It is good fun, and donations are now being accepted.
Last year, the event cost about $5k to throw, and they hope to throw a similar size event this year.
They kept the receipts from last year, and will use them to estimate what can be rented this year once they get a sense of how generous people are going to be with thier money and time.
So far, I know of only one poster who has committed to giving neither money or time. He doesn't know me or the organizers, so it is understandable.
I encourage everyone else to stop by About Time to get to know the owners and learn more about this event.
P.S. $10 or some of your time would be excellent.
-
A likely story but if you are the sort who likes to attend street functions that are hosted by known criminals(Harassment of women)like aka "Whynot" and company then sure by all means please attend this little shin-dig.
If you and your children dont mind being scammed then yes this event is a must attend. As the title of the thread says:
"Franklin Ave Kids Day should receive your money"Perhaps each and everyone of you should question yourselves as to why they should receive your money. They tug at your emotionals strings in order to make you give . Perhaps that donation that your are shamed into giving will save the life of a child or better yet pay teh car note of a scammers girlfriend..LOL! Wow, I love the drama and the urgency behind the title.
Just another elaborate scam.
All jokes aside, please donate your time and refrain from giving any donations unless you want to help some scammer pay his rent but then again that is my opinion and you can judge between right and wrong. I am only here to inform you.
-
Lillith-
Have you decided to volunteer your time?Yes: That's great! The more volunteers we get, the less money we will need to raise.
No: awe. So sad you won't be able to make it. It is really a fun event.
-
You know what...I have decided to show up and be the eyes and ears of the community. Making sure everything is on the level is now my prioity. I will report it on a thread once the event ends.
Someone needs to look out for the community and not their financial end result.
Nervous? ......Well you did invite me.
-
I really feel like Lillith's trolling has crossed the line. There are a number of people in this neighborhood who read this message board yet never post and it's really bothering me that he/she is pretty much accusing long time community members/volunteers/business owners of being scammers. These people have worked very hard over the years to build their reputations and relationships in the community and I sincerely hope that no one will take Lillith seriously.
-
The only person I am accusing of anything is "WhyNot" whom I have had the displeasure of dealing with via his incessant harassment. It was he who posted this thread and is supposedly running the event so it is safe to conclude that his reasons for running this event are questionable.
If anyone else was inadvertently offended I would like to apologize in advance.
-
Just on the off chance that anyone's actually listening to 'lillith'- I have been to one of these events in the past. I remember free food, free t-shirts, and other assorted free stuff that was just for kids. Somebunny pays for all that. It's a really nice, grassroots event. It's not a high-end shin dig, not by a long shot. Ain't nobody lining their pockets with this- it really wouldn't be worth it. Not when they can go to PS and rip off your neighbors- ha! Much more money in that neck of the woods.
WhyNot's a little geeky, but woman harasser??? Yea, not even close, nice try (yes, I'm one of many that know him in person). If you pay any attention outside of your paranoid bubble, lil- WhyNot responds to EVERYONE's posts.
Something to keep in mind, folks....

-
Whatchuwant-
I suspect your assurances of my geekyness and excessive posting will do little to change Lilliths mind, but I look forward to Lilliths attendance and enjoy his ongoing, strange assumptions.I also find it odd that I am suddenly running the event as opposed to merely encouraging people to volunteer and donate.
Only 4 more weeks!
At this rate we will be up to 20 pages of silliness, easy.
Lillith-
To find the members of this board, just look for the good looking people at the event. -
I highly doubt that.
-
While you may not think we can achieve 20 pages, we have done more with less.
-
Locked.
