They reportedly have already been granted their alcohol permit by CB8.

I took this photo today. It looks like work is progressing nicely

Washington Ave is on the left side of this photo

  • Just what Washington ave. needs, yet another bar for the lush hipsters.

It's truly sad that the only businesses that choose to come into the area are ones to intoxicate the masses.

  • As the neighborhood changes, Washington might go from being an avenue with many hair salons and barbers, to an avenue with many bars and restaurants.

At present, the hair salons and barbers continue to out number the bars.

It might be truly said if it were true, but it's not.

  • Off the top of my head, here are relatively new businesses on Washington:

    Cake decorating school

    Beer home brewing place.

    Penny Cafe

    Coffee Bites

    Thai food

Mexican place with the little skulls

    Janelle's Carib food

    Way Station

    small Dollar Store

    God Is

    Washington Commons

The little Variety store across from NSA

hair salons I don't go to

    Things soon to open Washington:

    The Kimchi taco place

    Skazzy Cafe

This seems like a mix a of businesses to me.

  • Sapid

    Yanitiba

    Sit & Wonder

  • What will make Jenee happy? The "lush hipsters" seem to bother her as much as the longstanding residents she complains about in other threads. I'm wondering what type and/or class of people she'd prefer to live with.

  • While that is an interesting question, I try to concern myself only with rooting for Washington Ave's new businesses.

I want readers to hear about all of the new businesses on the strip, and want readers to look at the new business and decide whether they are worthy of their hard earned dollars.

  • Wait! There's a cake decorating school? Is that the custom cake place past Prospect (I forget the exact name). Or are you talking about someplace else?

  • Correct: I am talking about a newish place that one can take cake decorating classes, not the custom the "Just Desserts" cake place near Bergen.

The "cake classes" place is on the PH side of Washington, somewhere near NSA supermarket. My knowledge of place is limited, but it did advertise classes.

  • speaking of new businesses, i could really go for a pizzeria where you can get a slice past 10PM. That'd be nice.

And speaking further of new businesses, what the hell's up with Cafe Shane becoming Shane's Cafe? That a serious rebranding idea? Or did their order for a new fancy sign just get botched? ("got a delivery for, uh, Shane's Cafe." "you mean Cafe Shane? Yeah, that's us" "uh.. order says Shane's Cafe, boss.")

  • Cafe Shane -

and the web address on their sign says "[email protected]." My hubby and I had a long talk about whether "@" is a legitimate character for a website. I typed it in and it redirects to cafeshane.com. I guess it's not the worst thing in the world, and maybe they did it on purpose so people will talk about it (like I did), but me thinks not.

C'mon Shane! get it together so your business doesn't die a slow death.

  • Stewart-

    Here's the link. http://www.bcakeny.com/about/

I saw them advertise a decorating class on their window at some point, but the website just says they make fancy cakes.

    It is big in there.

  • lots of care put into building out the space. Really good merge of modern w kind of a 70's cool. Anybody that needs people should look for these guys or the guys that did the new Toli space on Franklin, good work

  • We need more bars on Washington. &_&

  • God, you need to send a couple of potential bar owners a sign. How about a burning bush in the middle of Washington? Or perhaps a burning Brooklyn Brewery bottle? Something that can't be ignored.

  • God! who can help me ? ](*,)

Sorry man. Help yourself. I'm busy giving Michele Bachmann a headache.

  • If the potential bar owners haven't seen the area's changing demographics and the success of local bars, I'm not sure god can help them.

  • during construction

    Now

Photo credit and lots more snazzy photos of the place: http://ny.eater.com/archives/2011/07/bearded_lady.php#the-bearded-lady-1

For those who like history, one of the cocktails is named in tribute of the former business.

Kinky Krown: Plymouth Gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, Benedictine, Lemon Juice
