Has there ever been a documented case in world history of a car alarm preventing a car from being stolen?
-
hey thats my car your talking about ..
F**K Y*OU !!!na but really .. best thing to do is just put notes all over his/her car .. or build a dirt castle on it that would have turned to mud right about now..
eggs always leave a lasting impression too

Toilet-papering his car will also have a lasting impression, while being fairly harmless.

call the precinct and ask then to locate the person who owns the car. Maybe they live in the neighborhood and can reset the alarm.
A friend once parked my car and didnt close the door all the way and the alarm kept going off the entire time I was away for the weekend. I came home to find the transmission line cut and notes. Sometimes it is a malfunction and nobody is aware of it. -
Purchase a 2 liter of Coke...pour it on his car. Wait for paint to dissolve.

My two cents, echoing snarkslope, is that I don't think an alarm ever prevented a car from being stolen. For those of you around 8th Ave & 15th St, there was an ancient Ford Aerostar minivan whose alarm would go off whenever a truck or bus would go by. Nobody was going to steal that piece of crap and if they had, I would have given them $20 in gas money to make sure they got far away so I could get some sleep! There is just no point, in my opinion, for a car alarm.

If an alarm is going off you should call 911. It must be an emergency.

We had an issue a couple of years ago. One of the car service guys must've been living around here because his alarm was always going off. DH took a crowbar into the grill where the horn is and dislocated the wires. The NEXT time it happened, we removed them completely. Never heard that asshole again.

So, what you're saying is that I can find someone's car, set off their alarm while they're at work, and just let the neighborhood finish the job by fucking up their car some more with eggs, dirt and crowbars?
-
Actually I think the takeaway is that if you park your car and set your alarm, you have not reduced the risk of thieves stealing it, as much as you have INCREASED the risk of annoying the people on the block.
The noise could cause them to harm your car.

P.S. If one damages a car because its alarm was going off, It is important to leave a note stating the reason. Otherwise the owner may think that the alarm prevented additional damage, when in reality the alarm caused the damage.
I love summer.

I think that its fucked up to damage someone's car because of the alarm going off, especially if said person has never had the issue before. A lot of people have alarms, not because they necessarily want them, but because the presence of a working alarm reduces their cost for insurance significantly. Leave a note, ring the person's doorbell, etc. but don't trash their vehicle causing them to have to pay more money to get it fixed.

Homeowner- in our situation, this guy's alarm was going off ALL the time, and he never did anything about it. It wasn't the kind that turns off after a minute like many do these days- it was a loud, annoying honk (very low tech on a piece of crap car). The fact is, he was parked right outside my stepkids' window and they were completely unable to sleep as it had been going off for hours at that point.
I live on the parkway- there's no way I could figure out where the guy lived or else I would've certainly rung his bell. As for a note- I think that since this guy basically ignored his alarm and did nothing to repair it, he probably would've ignored a note as well.
I'm not for trashing cars per se, but some people are seriously inconsiderate. I have an alarm on my car, and I get the discount for insurance, however it's not too sensitive to where it goes off every time the wind blows- and if it did, we would repair it.
