They also took you for a ride about what neighborhood you're living in... I believe St Marks Place is in Park Slope. -
if youre in 488 st marks ave its in crown heights. if youre in 488 st marks pl your in manhattan.

yep, alma sucks all right. do a search here for jewish hospital, and i think you'll find more.
look on the bright side: it took us 3 months, 5 days, and TWO trips to court just to get cooking gas at 555 prospect.
and they said they'd pay our electricity until the gas was in and later charged us for it. i did get some rent abatement after complaining.
after waiting a year, i've given up on the laundry room. sadly, it's not mentioned in my lease, so i don't have any legal grounds to complain. you might, if it was shown to you when you looked at the place, i guess. (i've never even seen it; you're like a visitor to the holy land as far as i'm concerned)
on the other hand, we've decided to stay in the building because we like the apartment and the location, they (weirdly) WEREN'T lying about it being rent stabilized, and, well, i can't face moving again this soon. -
Another posting career begins with a complaint.
Good luck, I hope you get satisfaction. -

I pay a Manhattan price for a 1 bedroom apartment which is in a building that by Manhattan standards is mediocre. I was born and raised in Manhattan and grew up in a co-op where my parents paid 800 a month for a descent 2 bedroom apartment to raise 3 children. My boyfriend and I signed a lease where we pay almost 3 times that amount.
Are you really paying close to $2400 for a one bedroom in Crown Heights? If so, you got majorly scammed.
BTW, the going rate for a one bedroom in manhattan is now $3,000. http://www.nysun.com/article/38069
Market rent for a one bedroom in your area barely approaches 50% of that. -

he is right get out of you contract if you are in crown heights thats just over paying by like i think 100%. -
that price does seem crazy, even compared to what i paid the same company a year ago for a two bedroom.
-
Don't you have a separate electric meter for your unit? Where is your electric bill coming from? If it is your own meter, then nobody should be tapping into it. If you feel your bill is too high then you should call the uility company right away.
You are paying way too much for the apartment if you are in Crown Heights. -
man, to think about how close we came to living there makes me shudder.
new toilets, though. -
dude check this web site to see if you can f ind a way out of this lease!!! or something. you are paying park slope prices!!!

I'm right up the block from you, and that is harsh. Seriously, my mortgage is around that price. You could be owning for that.
And since someone mentioned it, that Jewish Hospital intrigues me. It seems like such an amazing building- but are there really 700 units in it, as I read somewhere? Also I heard a two bedroom goes for $2500/mnth. That seems a little steep for having so many neighbors right on top of you. But it really is a pretty building. -
some facts from the jewish:
i live in the main building on prospect, the one that says "the jewish hospital of brooklyn" on the front. it is plausible that there are 700 units in the whole complex (including the associated buildings on classon, prospect, and st. marks), although i bet that's a little high. i'd definitely bet there are at least 500 though.
my 2 bedroom definitely costs way less than that, although i don't have a deck or a balcony or other fancy things that could drive the price up. a few units have very large decks and/or roof access, and i bet those are considerable pricier. (at the time we were looking, about a year ago, ours was the cheapest 2 bedroom available in the building. but then, most of the building wasn't done and i don't think our super-shady broker was entirely honest. shock of the century, i know.) then again, the view from the roof is pretty jaw-dropping.
i'm a little wary of posting my rent, only because i'm sick of hearing that i'm paying too much. we looked in ph, ps, astoria, lic, bocaca, wt, billyburg, greenpoint, etc., and this was the best deal we found. we saw cheaper places, but they were not fit for dogs. (and were, at most $200 cheaper -- one trip to the e.r. after getting mugged could easily take care of that kind of savings. not to metion explaining to my mother why the front hall is floored exclusively in old bubble gum or that my landlord has a crystal meth addiction, not scurvy.)
although my distaste for our landlords is pronouced, i do love my apartment. transportation is fantastic, the place is clean, has high ceilings, good air/light, and our super -- the only part of the management company i see regularly -- is, well, super. -
How interesting. Thank you! I live right across the street and pass these buildings every day on my way to the S and always try to sneak a peak in the open windows.
I also heard they're going to try to put some restaurants in there.
I might have to pretend I'm an interested renter to get a better look at the place.
There are no units to purchase? Only rentals?
Howdy, Stranger!
