People Swaying to Techno in backyard
It's not unusual to hear music from other people in my apartment. There is a fair bit of reggae and a couple weekends ago there was an actual DJ spinning a mix of the 90s in someone's back yard for some sort of birthday party. I kind of liked the DJ, but besides that, they shut down by 10:30 and I was very happy with their awareness of community around them. I have no idea who they are, but I like them a lot. A lot of the reggae is old, Peter Tosh style and it's hard to argue with that.
Imagine my surprise when I just overheard loud techno music. Peering outside my apartment I can see a variety of people on yoga mats doing a swaying dancing thing that mostly resembles zombies on fast forward. Every once in a while the leader shouts out encouragements.
My first desire was to yell out, "Are You God-Damn Serious?!" but I restrained myself. My next urge was to dump water on them. Mostly, though, I want to yell at the group of mostly white people blasting techno and swaying, "You Are Not Making My Life Easier!". It's one thing to come into a neighborhood where you are a minority and try to be as friendly as possible and not be seen as a bad thing. This gets a lot harder to do, though, when groups of white people blast techno and sway as a fun Friday night activity.
I think it would be worth it for these (12?) people went to Launchpad and asked if they could have a class there.
I was going to take a nice video of these people but I didn't want to risk dropping my phone.
Oh. My. God. Someone just brought out a drum.

That is, to say the least, bizarre. Maybe it is a 'if you can beat em, join em' response to all the other loud music in the neighborhood. That sucks

As the song hit it's middle two of them would start drumming along to the beat (mostly) and then the drumming would increase till the song ended. they would then stand there with hands together in front of them and a meditative pose and the leader would talk about letting go of the negative and feeling the positive energy roll in, blah blah, good energy, blah, blah.
If we're going to put a lot of stock into rolling energies I wonder that it was possible for these people to feel any good ones considering all the negative energy I was directing at them. I can't have been the only one to be sending such thoughts their way either.
And maybe it was such beat um, join um thing. If so, I found them to be a lot more obnoxious than just about anything else. Yes the neighboring DJ ended at 10:30, and these people ended at 9:50, but that much techno with hand beat drums is far more irksome than just about anything else.

As one of my black neighbors observed, following a loud argument between tow white people that broke out at our block party a few weeks ago, "white people can be just as stupid as black people" :-)

Ha.

People tend not to care as much when its their kind of music.

Is this post for real?

quantumsilence,
Do you mean did it actually happen? Then yes. I wish I had proof. If they show up again this coming Friday I'll try to take a picture if you want. I'm torn about it and whether or not inconsiderate people deserve their right to privacy to not be photographed. Why and how would I make this up? I suppose I did leave off my main question, though. I was wondering if anyone has seen these people/this class before or in other backyards?
Also, if anyone is talking to their friends and discover who it was could you pass on the request to turn down the music and please to not include the Brazilian style drumming. The drumming is Super irritating the and the two guys doing it just aren't that good.

Good news: We only have to endure two more months of this.
After that, we can spend the next 8 months preparing for the summer of 2012!
--We can dream up even better ways to annoy each other, and how to express ourselves when we are annoyed.
It will be great.

Question, WN.
What type of music would you suggest I play to maximally annoy people?
Seems in this case "white music" is the way to go.
Thank you.

Play rock or techno in black neighborhoods, play hip hop or rap (more curse words the better) in white neighborhoods. Personally, Mexican music with that slow drum beat that sounds off drives me crazy...

Providing advice is not as simple as you might think.
First, you have to take into account The Paradox.
According to the The Paradox, one is only able to maximize annoyance when one truly knows their opponent/neighbor.
However, when one truly knows people, one often finds that they are not Satan incarnated.
[Note: I have bolded the word often to denote that sometimes people do closely resemble Satan. ...even though I do not believe Satan exists]
If one does not wish to get to know their neighbor, yet still wishes to annoy them greatly, I suppose a scientific process of trial and error could be attempted.
-When the person is yelling epithets out the window you are getting close.
-Posting on an internet message board does not seem to be an indicator of annoyance, as it does not take much effort.
-
ntfool, if all white people knew each other I wouldn't come here to complain I would go directly to the offenders.
Whynot, I am still debating water balloons to express my annoyance at their annoying me.
or Boygabriel, I personally am thinking of serenading them with classic country music if it happens again. Who wouldn't benefit from some loud Johnny Cash and Tammy Wynette?
-
Although my neighbor does not know me, and may not be trying to annoy me, they repeatedly play gospel music very loud.
[Little do they know that because of them, I have started to sort of like Gospel music, despite being an atheist.]

I'm sorry to be so unoriginal in my posting on-line whynot. I thought it would be better to complain about them here than to douse them with water. It actually took a great deal of effort to do this instead of to retaliate directly.

Damn I forgot country music!! Especially the real sappy kind. Dropped the ball on that one...
The upbeat stuff I dont mine as much.

It is my hobby.
