The Heat! — Brooklynian

The Heat!

How are folks in Prospect Heights handling the heat? I heard that earlier this morning there was a power outage in Brooklyn Heights. Hope we don't face that.

  • We're down to 112 volts according to my Monster power washer. Normally we're at 120.

  • I set up a cot and a television in the Met Food on Vanderbilt and Park Pl. Say what you want about their meager selection and customer service, they don't skimp on the a/c. Frigging meat locker.

I spent a looooong time picking out my vegetables at Natural Land this afternoon. You know it's hot when Natural Land has the A/C cranked.

  • Actually, the Park Slope Food Co-op seems to crank the a/c as well when the temps go above 70. I literally have step outside a few times and warm myself up like an iguana sitting on a rock, whenever I do a shift during the summer.

  • I wish some places would tone down their ac usage so it doesn't cause a black out on days like this. from office buildings to stores etc.. that crank it up like its the ice age.

Our office building participated in a ConEd power-reduction program and we were asked to turn down the A/C, turn off any non-essential lighting, and shut down some elevators (if possible) yesterday. But, I agree with you. I also think that it should be illegal for shops to blast the A/C and keep the doors wide open. You would think the bill from all that wasted electricity would be enough of a deterrent, but I guess it's not.

  • it is is illegal

I tried watering down my roof for some relief ---don't think it helped much
