Carousel?
What do you think about the carousel that's emerging at Brooklyn Bridge/Empire Fulton Ferry State Park? To me, it looks like an oversized, totally inappropriate stain on one of the City's beautiful, historic and simple green spaces. Can't we every say "no" to self-interested, narcissistic "donations" from the wealthy?

Haven't seen it. Are there blueprints? Or is in these photos and I'm not seeing it?
-
sorry - the photos in the original post are from last year, before construction of the carousel housing began.

Well, here's a recent photo I took of the park, brooklyn bridge, and the in-progress housing for this carousel. I recognize that construction is not complete and that the final product will not be covered in white protective paper, but nonetheless I find this to be a physical and visual disaster. I'd like to know what others think:
-
I think it could be really cool.

The city just gave the go ahead for the larger "more deluxe" version of the park, complete with condos inside the park.
Since we no longer use the waterfront for shipping, I welcome using it "even more" as a recreation destination, and for homes for wealthy people.
It sounds as if we might get a Brooklyn version of Battery Park City.
P.S. The WNYC article got a nazi reference in the second comment. Godwin's law is alive and well

Surely the building will have windows all around when open. It would make no sense whatsoever to put the carousel there at spectacularity central, only to enclose it in a bloated shipping container looking thing.

The Daily News takes the perspective that by taking money from developers, the city did what was best for the city:

It will be a sorely needed attraction. I can't wait.
-
It will be illuminated at night like a giant music box. Where's the Minnie and Mickey exhibit going to go? Welcome to Brooklyn!

Welcome to Brooklyn, where installing a carousel in a park is enough to get people bent completely out of shape. For crying out loud. My God, the horror of it all. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO WHEN A PUBLIC PARK IS ALLOWED TO CONTAIN AN ATTRACTION?
Howdy, Stranger!
