Let's make some money — Brooklynian

Let's make some money

It has been a crazy week!

First, the government voted to extend the debt ceiling, but with the provision that we cut spending and not raise taxes.

Now, the world stock markets are in a nose dive.

While some believe that the world is going down hill fast, my brain is wondering how one could make some real money in NYC doing legal activities off these changing, chaotic times.

I believe we are entering a period in which the income of everyone but the wealthy will fall.

Here are my ideas, and the logic associated with them, so far....

1. Sell t-shirts and buttons to zealots on the left and the right that blame the other side for our present problems.

2. Embrace my exploitative, evil, dark side and open a Rent-A-Center, Check Cashing or We Buy Gold Pawn Shop.

3. Embrace my dark side and create a businesses that promise customers things that are not delivered: For Profit Immigration Assistance that assures Citizenship, For Profit Trade Schools that assure union positions.

4. Buy a fleet of Dollar Vans to undercut the MTA.

5. Sell cheap food products that low income people can afford: Goya, mac and cheese, ramen.

6. Become an expert at fixing cars made between 1992 and 2000.

7. Conduct workshops that teach people how to do home repair themselves, and not have to pay for an expert.

8. Your ideas....

  • how bout we send undercover hookers and drug dealers to left and right wing politicians.

  • So...the oxymoron here is that by "cashing in" on some of these ideas (none of which I'm fairly sure you'll be doing for free) you aim to become one of "them" so that you won't fall as well...leaving the poor schnooks, of which I am one, in your wake.

  • Such is the evil (?) nature of capitalism:

-Those who do not quickly adapt and innovate are left behind by those that do.

-Those who do not quickly look for opportunities, often find that best ones are already taken.

  • is it time to loot yet?

    This isn't London.

...we will stay civilized or a while yet.

  • ya'll know i'm ready for a good lootin and burin.

or was it burn and loot. or was it booty and burning. ah anyway doesn't matter.

  • This calls for some classic Sex Pistols "Anarchy in the UK"

  • lets hope if nyc had one of these wouldn't turn out to be like the pussies there in the uk or la.

I remember the la riots, watching it on tv, the cops just stood there and let them run amok etc....

  • If rioting comes to NY, I wish to point out that all my "money making ideas" were of the legal variety.

It looks like the London police are going to crack down on the nonsense tonight (remember, they are about 5 hours ahead of us)

....anyone have any predictions of how it will go?

Are we going see to see a few protesters and police dead over the next 8 hours?

  • Back to making money:

    8. Sell lottery tickets and/or run buses to the local casinos

    9. Buy stock in a company that makes really cheap, rot-gut, vodka.

    10. Get rich quick schemes

    11. Start a store front church that convinces people by suffering now and donating to my church, they will have an excellent afterlife.

    12. Start a temp agency.

    13. Invest in businesses that profit from crime and fear.

  • 14. Invest in businesses that manufacture or install things that fortify a residences or businesses.

I'm thinking laminated glass, and those roll down steel gates.
