Netflix -you got it, what do you watch?

  • Any new 'watch instantly' recommendations or movies to add to the netflix bin?

  • So I've been watching a bunch of documentaries on Netflix in the past couple of weeks. These are definitely three of the best:

Dear Zachary: A letter to a son about his father

    A Man Named Pearl

    Collapse

For a little mindless fun try Ip Man

  • I loved Ip Man!

Great fight scenes, solid story line. If you are down with kung fu movies like "Once Upon a Time in China" you'll love it.

Just saw Winter's Bone on instant last night. Very captivating. 2 words: Crazy Rednecks.

  • I liked Winters Bone.

  • I could make a dirty joke here ;-)

Not at you, of course.. damn i stuck my foot in it didn't I?

    <---Runs away

  • OMG, you've been stoinked by Winter too?

  • Damn Homeowner! I just watch the preview for Dear Zachary and it made me tear up, that's some heavy stuff.

Has anyone watched the BBC series Archangel?

I just put it in the queue.

Also just finished (only on rental) "The Girl Who Leaped Through Time."

For those who like British themed dramas: The House of Cards Trilogy is on Papi Chulo's fave list right now.

  • Mama, it's definitely necessary to watch with tissues but its a riveting story. My SO is all into the British dramas so I'll recommend House of Cards. Already been through the original Torchwood, Jekyll, Luther, and Sherlock Holmes so this should be a good addition.

  • If you like (British) police procedurals, Wire in the Blood is great. Luther was awesome too. We recently added Sherlock to the list.

  • Homeowner, your partner will love House of Cards, I'm now on "Final Cut" the last part of the trilogy and I'm hooked.

Tj, Sherlock was so good I watched it twice :thumleft:

Also worth watching again is Fawlty Towers

And Monty Python on instant is a great way to waste some time.

  • mama wrote: And Monty Python on instant is a great way to waste some time.

    I disagree.

Watching Monty Python is a constructive use of time. Just about anything else we do in life is a waste of time.

  • I watched streaming "Back to school" with Rodney Dagerfield and a young Robert Downey, Jr. It was one of those late late night "let's watch something dumb" choices. And you know what?? It was so much funnier then I remembered it to be! Harold Ramis was one of the writers, so that makes sense to me. I like his work.

  • Both Alien and the original Total Recall are not on watch instant. What's up with that? Movies that old should be on instant. So what are you watching? Rental, instant or at the movies?

  • Harold and Phyllis.. mazingly good documentary. Would interest anyone who has a parent!

  • Halfway through season 2 of Breaking Bad (late to the party). Recently watched Lincoln Lawyer, with Matthew McCounaghy. Was pretty entertaining, a definite throwback to the sort of legal procedurals/murder mystery movies we used to get in theaters every other month from the 70's through the mid-late 90's.

Short-lived tv show from a few years ago, Terriers, is on instant. Only lasted one season on FX, but damn it, its gold.

Also just started delving into The Wire, but on HBO Go.

  • I'm currently working my way through Doc Martin. It's cool because Channel 21 (Cablevision)is showing season 5 now so I can almost become current and hope BBC America jumps on the bandwagon.

Mama, its funny you posted about Total Recall. My teen was interested in seeing the original after I told him that it was one of those movies that wasn't good but at the time was great and cutting edge (her head was the bomb! he has a twin baby succubus! little people prostitutes with machine guns! their heads exploded!!!) and he asked if I'd check to see if it was on Netflix. We couldn't believe they don't have it.

  • Aww man, I've had War Horse on my mailing queue for a while now and I kept bumping it down because even though I wanted to see it and I knew it received much acclaim, I also knew it was a bummer of a movie (the horse probably dies right?) and I didn't want to be balling my eyes out like a little girl who just read The Red Pony or Ol Yeller... anyways, I forgot to bump it down again.. It just arrived #-o
