Video:

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A Jewish woman was attacked, shoved to the ground and robbed on Eastern Parkway Monday morning as she was about to enter an apartment building, and the entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera.
The cowardly mugger snuck up behind the woman, after following her from the bakery on Albany Avenue, and pounced on her as she was opening the front door to her building. The thief attempted to snatch her purse, only the woman resisted and after a brief struggle he shoved her to the ground and fled, making off with her iPhone which she was holding in her hand.
Courageously, the woman got back to her feet and attempted to follow the mugger, only he managed to slip away. Police and Shomrim were called and a police report was filed.
A man matching the description of the mugger was spotted later on that day by a Shomrim volunteer who called the police and they stopped the man and took his information.
Detectives have been assigned to the case.

So let's say an Asian man did the mugging. The video title reads "Chinese Coward/Crook/Scumbag Mugs Woman". I'm guessing as long as the word chink or other epithet isn't used it's okay?

the title is someone being descriptive of physical, first thing people notice is the differences. after that probably age etc....

the media has became pussies over the decade not to offend criminals with descriptions. the description is correct, he is a coward, going up against women.

Idlewild, I agree with you that the headline betrays obvious bias. My guess is that both the speaker and its intended audience are biased against the black residents of their neighborhood.

You're rationalizing. The word "Coward" certainly would have been enough. Obviously, the features and age of the asshole is apparent on the video.

And you're absolutely right. Just like they're are black people from Ghana, Angola, Trinidad, New York City and a whole host of other nations and cities. And I still wouldn't label the video "Angolan Coward" or "Trinidadian Coward". Hell! I don't even like the description of "Jewish Woman" being used as terminology for the victim. It separates people from the human race. Whether it's intentional or not.

To me society got it's priorities messup, be outrage by the crime and stupidity and mindless violence first before the miss used of a word which might or might not offend people.

No sir! You got it all wrong. I'm angry at both. By saying "Black Coward" you are separating a whole community from the human community. A community of folks whom I imagine are just as pissed about the mugging as anyone else. Even saying "Black Hero" or "Jewish Hero" or "Asian Hero", is stating that they're actions as a race is different from the rest of the world. This is no better than when you listen to people isolating Islam or gays and lesbians. It's this type of baiting that creates violence that will have nothing to do with an asshole looking to mug a lady of her purse. And aren't you the one who was bitching about the City showing Breakfast at Tiffany's because of Mickey Rooney's portrayal of a Japanese photographer, Mister I'm Sick of PC?

Actually, I find it to be innate in the human race. Even yours truly used to fall to temptation when events happened. Now, as the old saying goes, "I'm not a racist or a bigot. I think everyone sucks." Pretty sad.

If he is on any government programs it should be taken away. government assistance should be a privilege, citizenship should be all earn not given as a damn birth right.

the video and the text came from a web site called chi, crown heights info, which seems to be a neighborhood news site published by lubavitchers. that goes a way toward explaining the odd description of the victim first and foremost as jewish -- this is their target audience -- but it does not explain or excuse the racial characterization of the mugger. one hopes this is not representative of the lubavitcher community.

While the website is not an official mouthpiece, it seems to have a large audience.

Here's a link to its coverage of local crime.

Despite being set-up in a way that comments must be approved before being published, the editor(s) seem to allow a variety of viewpoints.

Like most low-budget community newspapers and websites, crime postings often receive the most discussion. (Brooklynian, The Patch, The Brooklyn Paper, The Post, Daily News, etc)
