suggestion don't give them away for free. free brings out some of the worst people out there. if you put some money value on them, people who care for them a little more.
some people are known to take free cats and dogs and resell them etc... don't want people to take the tanks and dump the turtles or make turtle soup out of them etc....

Hey, I know of a gorgeous community garden up in harlem, run by a lovely retired social worker, that accepts these turtles. I myself have rescued two red-earred sliders and brought them up there...

They have a small pond in the garden, and the turtles do indeed survive winter. They feed them too.
